Hi all,
I'm on special notices right now because I'm in the middle of trying to move. If you answer my question, could you please reply to my inbox too so I don't have to take the time to look for it. Thanks.

There is an error report attached re: the following question

First off, my computer infor
Windows XP HE, version 2002, service pack 2, HP Pavilion, Pentium[R] 4 CPU
2.50GHz, 2.49 GHz, 0.99 GB of Ram....that's everything on my general properties page so if you need more you will have to tell me where to find it.

Somewhere between a year and a year and a half ago I got my first web cam. (Creative Web cam)  Almost everytime I tried to use it, with the exception of just a couple of random times, my system would crash. At the time was trying to use it in messenger. Asked this question all over the internet and got all kinds of suggestions and nothing made any difference. I finally tried it in Skype and it worked in skype but always crashed the computer in messenger. At one point I added memory to this computer. I want to say I put in 2gigs but not 100% on that. As I recall, that did not make any difference with the cam. It had been suggested that it was a memory problem.

Told all of that to tell this. A few days ago, my granddaughter got on my PC and downloaded some games. I don't remember what now as I uninstalled them. Then I ran a scan and found something like 153 traces and about 50 spyware. Cleaned it. I think I ran one more scan and found nothing. Then I restarted it. Since it came back on, it has acted like I have just installed firefox, yahoo, and skype. My firewall, Zonealarm seems to have forgotten many of the things it had permission to do. I ran a scan on Trend House call. All I found there was a whole lot of MS stuff, mostly r/t IE7 and 8 which I do not have. All says it has to be removed manually. Can't find any of it to remove it but don't know why any of that would have anything to do with this. I think I probably got infected by the games my granddaughter downloaded. I did a system restore. First one didn't work. Second one worked, I think. Did not get any message that it did not. My desktop icons all look new. A lot of things look new.

It seems that everything is okay now. Don't seem to find anymore infections, but there is one big problem!! Now, when I try to use the web cam on Skype, the computer crashes, like it did when I was trying to use it in messenger. Also, a couple of things that used to pop up when I started it that I had removed are back. One is an error message about ringjacker which is r/t skype. I had removed that. There is at least one other about not being able to find some dll. Can't recall off the top of my head what that said now.

Does any of this make any sense, ring a bell.....anything that I can do to fix the webcam problem. I am moving to AU and it is the computer I plan to give to my granddaughter to talk to me on the webcam, but, if it doesn't work.....

As long as we are talking webcam problems. A year ago I got a new Dell laptop and got a cam for it (Logitec) Windows XP HE version 2002, service pack 2, Dell Inspirion 1501, AMD Athlon (tm) 64 X2, Dual-Core Processor TK-53, 796 MHz, 1.87 GB Ram.  I have had only the rare problem with it and it was usually a dropped call. Have used web cam in both messenger and skype with no trouble at all until about a week or two ago. No one has been messing with this computer  but messenger will not let us (me and my fiance in AU) connect our webcams in messenger anymore. Can't figure out why. Neither of us have changed anything we know of.

So I have two questions

1. Any suggestions for the HP for why it crashes when trying to use the webcam

2. Any suggestions for why we can no longer connect in messenger on the Dell. (Web cam still works fine on Skype on the Dell)

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Please send your response to my email nannabammrn@...
