This is illegal. You cannot ask only for H-1B visa holders, you can ask for
only those that are valid for work, that includes 'US Citizens'.

This is a clear demonstration of the misuse & abuse of the H-1B Visa system
ad should be passed on to the appropriate authorities.

Yours sincerely

It's not perl, so I'll also keep it short. The poster did not ask for ONLY
H-1B visa holders, they asked for (as subj line) " Very urgent req of
Candidates with Valid H-1B Visa". This is an international list. The post is
not restricted to the US and so such a proposition is not illegal; they are
not seeking to employ US residents, but people from abroad wishing to enter
the US and work using this class of visa.

It may suck, but it's not illegal, and it is precisely why the H-1B visa
exists.

In any event, it's also *off topic* for a technical discussion list, so would
you really want to work for such a company without a clue? I'll stop just
short of calling this company a spammer. Would you want to work for a
spammer?

Greetings,

Can anyone share good ways to validate whether or not all fields on a form
have been completed, so that the user cannot proceed to submit a form unless
all reequired fields have been completed?

Thanks,

Please note that I do NOT wish to use Javascript to do the validation.

I should have made this clear when I asked the question.

Am looking specifically for form validation techniques using perl on the
server side.

TIA,

A user can _always_ submit a form, with or without any field filled in.
The most easiest way is:

   http://your_web_site?submit

You should always validate any submission even if you use Javascript on
the form to preprocess the form. See `perldoc perlsec` and search for
"Laundering and Detecting Tainted Data"

Dear Friends,

I had written a Perl Tk Program. In which i`m performing different
types of calculations by calling different subroutines. There is no
problem while i run a particular calculation for the first time. But
when i use the same calculation again it is getting hanged (slower and
slower). This program is written in Active Perl 5.8.7 in WinXP. Will
this be the same case with UNIX machines too.

Is this problem due to my way of declaring the variables ? Please give
me some advice.

I had a very quick look at http://search.cpan.org (searched "pdf to
text") but didn't find anything useful. I might not have looked hard
enough.

It might be easier to run Acrobat Reader and choose File/Save as Text.

You could try PDF::API2 available on CPAN
http://search.cpan.org/~areibens/PDF-API2-0.51/ It even has its own
group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/perl-text-pdf-modules/

There is one software called PDFTOTEXT, you can download that software. And, use
it in Unix. That does pretty good job.

   If you want to know more options, let me know.

Simple answer: No
You have declared the array so accessing it does not require additional
declaration.
Where is $j initialised

     They are not the same variable. $list_item[$j] is a one

scalar variable which happens to have a similar name. Declaring
$list_item will have no effect on $list_item[$j] or on @list_item.

:              $j++;
:            }

     As Ken pointed out, $j should be declared somewhere. Here's a
rewrite. It reads a little easier if we use plurals for array
names. I have changed @list_item to @list_items. In practice, I
would use a descriptive name which identified what I was working
on. @list_items is too generic for most applications. Finally, I
added some white space to make things easier to read.

sub test {
	 my @list_items = &decode_list;

	 my $j = 0;
	 foreach ( @list_items ) {
		 $list_items[$j] = &decimal( $list_items[$j] );
		 $j++;
	 }

	 # I assume we a returning something.
	 return @list_items;
}

     It is more modern to step through array values using an alias,
unless you absolutely have to use an index. Here, $list_item is an
alias for each element in the array and changing its value changes
the underlying value in the @list_items.

sub test {
	 my @list_items = &decode_list;

	 foreach my $list_item ( @list_items ) {
		 $list_item = decimal( $list_item );
	 }

	 return @list_items;
}

	 Since this is a beginner's list and &decode_list has become
an obscure syntax, it might be better to explicitly write test()
like this. Read perlsub on why &decode_list and decode_list(@_)
are equivalent.

sub test {
	 my @list_items = decode_list( @_ );

	 foreach my $list_item ( @list_items ) {
		 $list_item = decimal( $list_item );
	 }

	 return @list_items;
}

PS

 	 For those of you who do not know, @_ is a special array
holding the values passed to test(). If we call test like this,

my @people = test( qw| John Paul Betty | );

	 The Perl places 'John', 'Paul' and 'Betty' into @_ in that
order. &decode_list is a special syntax which means
decode_list(@_). That's just like calling this (except the
arguments change each time we call test() again).

my @list_items = decode_list( qw| John Paul Betty | );

Charles
I answered a different question to you!
I had assumed that, although he had dropped the [] he was still refering to
the members of the array @list_item as "$list_item" . Gramatically you are
correct.

You may already have had a replay t this, if so sorry.

Anyway, a pdf file, is just a text file so you can parse for text just as you
would for any text file.

Thanks

Peter

Subject: File lookup?

I need to write some code that will take an ID from File-1 and see if it
exists on File-2. If it does, then I want to write out the record from
File-2 to another file.

File-1 is just IDs, and File-2 is the ID plus a bunch of other fields
comma delimited. The ID however is variable length. The files are
ASCII. File-1 will only contain a small number of records (about 1K),
while File-2 will be about 100K records.

I have no idea how to do this (I'm a total Perl novice) and could
greatly use help.

Thanks!

~~Kevin~

Could you show some sample lines from the first file and from the
second file?

You could try the following code on your sample data.

If you will be 'massaging' the data in file-2,
you might consider treating your second
file as a database (using DBD::CSV).

#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict;
use warnings;

my %ids;

open my $id, "<", "o33.txt" or die "Unable to open o33.txt $!";

while (<$id>) {
      chomp;
      $ids{$_} = 1;
}

close $id or die $!;

open my $data, "<", "o44.txt" or die "Unable to open o44.txt $!";
open my $out, ">", "o55.txt" or die "Couldn't write results $!";

while (<$data>) {
      my $key = (split /,/)[0];
      if ($ids{$key}) {
           print $out $_;
      }
}

close $data or die $!;
close $out or die $!;
