Just wanted to add that I have experienced this problem as well.
I am pretty sure it only happens when my laptop is connected to my
wireless keyboard.
Before I found your entries, I had written to the support folks at
TheBrain and got the following response:
Dear Maurice,
Thank you for your interest in our product.
It seems that your "F9" key on your keyboard is stuck.
I would appreciate if you could please try to
hit the F9 key a few times and that should take care of the problem.

Roberto's suggestion agrees with that from TheBrain's support. I can
also confirm that pressing the F9 key clears up the problem.
But I am going to write to TheBrain support again. This should be
something they can fix.
By the way, I use a Logitech Cordless Keyboard.
