Comet Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 will be passing near earth over the next
few weeks, but it's not just one comet- it broke up about 10 years
ago and now forms a string of comets. Two of the fragments will be
bright enough to be seen in binoculars, and may become visible to the
naked eye under dark skies in mid May. Several other fragments can
be seen in telescopes. This is a rare treat that you're not likely
to see again.
On Saturday night the string of comets will be rising in the east at
sunset, and will rise higher as the night progresses. For more info
on the comets, see
