Assuming your own monitor is correctly adjusted and calibrated (or darn
close) that's what matters. Since you will NEVER have control over other
monitors, you are unable to make any adjustments for thie lack of proper
adjustment or quality.
It is a very common problem. Heck, my work monitor is so old and degraded I
can't even edit photos on it anymore!
Knowing that other people will not have properly adjusted monitors, I added
anote to a really dark image on flickr. [If your monitor isn't adjusted
well, you might not see much at all.]

Adjust your monitor that you use to edit properly, and don't worry about the
other people! We can't really do much about it...
Note that some websites even ahve a small grayscale [from black to white
gradiant] image on them to help people see if they need to adjust their
monitor, for best viewing.
