Is this right in CS4 extended?   Message List

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended and have finally decided to try and learn how to use it. I am a long time PSP9 user so at least have a beginners knowledge.
 
I got hold of a tutorial on getting started on PS CS4 but a part of the instruction (and it's a video so how could you go wrong) states to open the Adjustments Palette by going to Window and in the drop down menu selecting 'adjustment'.
But when I do this, I don't have adjustment to select from.
 
 
It also baffles me that when I go to HELP and use the PSHelp online, it opens up HELP files for CS3 on the web.
 
Can anyone help me to understand this all please?
