Play needs actors!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #128 of 329 |
Hi y'all! I'm a current third-year at PHTS, but I thought I'd infiltrate
this list because I'm in a play that needs actors! Below is a copy of
the breakdown I sent to Steve for the weekly digest.

Divine Praise Prods. is looking for non-union actors for the
spiritual gospel comedy YOU AIN'T NO BETTA THAN ME.

Character Breakdowns:

DILLON and MITCH [supporting]: late teens-early twenties, white,
friends to JOHN, racist

One of the two actors would double as JOHN, sister to JENNY (the
white girl who's dating a black boy, which provides the play's
central conflict). He's racist but changes his ways at the end of the
play. Major supporting role, must be able to sing.

JUANITA and LAUDES [supporting]: late teens-early twenties,
Hispanic or African-American (actors who can "pass" for these
ethnicities are welcome), female gang members, ability to do
Puerto Rican or similar accent a plus

MARIA [supporting]: late teens-early twenties, Hispanic (ability to
speak Spanish and/or pull off a Puerto Rican accent a plus), sister
to JOSE (male gang member), hangs out with her black friends
instead of the Hispanic girl gang

MARY [lead]: 35-60 (there are other actors in the play who are
playing this age or older, but are around 20 themselves), African-
American, aunt of ERIC (the black boy dating the white JENNY), a
super-Pentecostal lady who's always "catching the Spirit,"
flamboyant and outgoing, begins opposing ERIC and JENNY's
interracial relationship but ends up supporting them

Auditions are this Friday 12/3 from 6-10 pm, and this Saturday
12/4 from 1-5pm, at 127 W. 127th St., Oberia Dempsey
Community Center. Take the 2 or 3 trains to 125th St., walk two
blocks north, then turn left. Oberia is on the north side of the
street. Call me when you get off the subway (phone # below), and
I'll try to meet you outside the building.

No monologue needed; the audition will be reading sides from the
show. Please bring a headshot and resume if you have them. And
be prepared to have fun!

The performance will be Sat. Jan. 15 in the Hamptons
(transportation to and from the city will be provided). Current
estimate of pay is around $50. There will be no rehearsals between
Dec. 18 and Jan. 7, because of the holidays.

Please e-mail me, Nicole Matson, at ncm215@... , or call me
at 757-377-8915 (preferred) or 212-443-3302 to let me know
what day and approximately what time you will be coming.

Please, people, we need you! It's a fun rehearsal situation, a cast
that feels like family, and there's PAY!

Thanks!

Nicole Matson
