FYI PHTS ALUM: Great opportunity for directors to workshop original ideas/pieces
for future production. Actors get the chance to work with emerging directors
from SITI Co., WOW, and other downtown companies in addition to training
WOW-style, which is unlike anything else out there when it comes to creating
original ensemble-based plays! I'll be there with bells on...other PHTS/NYU
Alum have already jumped in on it!Peace, Jacquie PhillipsDevelopment

International WOW Company presents their
Summer Workshop Intensive 2003:ENSEMBLE-BUILDING

The International WOW Company is proud to open its
doors again and welcome interested and enthusiastic
actors, directors, and theater artists to participate
in its summer workshop intensive. This 3-week program
focuses on creating original theater pieces through
collaboration with an ensemble. The program is led by
Artistic Director Josh Fox, Associate Artistic Director
Aya Ogawa, and the NY members of the International WOW
Company. We are proud to announce that this summer we
will be joined by the Thai company of International
WOW! The Thai artists are founding members of the
company and will be teaching a variety of performative
disciplines.

WEEK ONE
All participants, performers and directors, train
together in various physical performance disciplines
developed by the company from both eastern and western
traditions.
WEEK TWO
Exploring compositions. A variety of composition
assignments, varying in rehearsal period lengths, and
in different combinations of artists. Each group, led
by a director will be given composition assignments
everyday, with certain requirements to fulfill. These
compositions will be shown to the group at the end of
each training day.
WEEK THREE
Directors cast/select their ensemble from the pool of
performers. Each ensemble has one week to work
collaboratively and create an original piece of
theater, to be shown in an evening as the culminating
performance event.

The International WOW Company is a global community of
theater artists. Over the last 7 years WOW has
pioneered a new form of theater-making with
international and intercultural performance exchange.
The company's method of creating original plays has
become a trademark process that epitomizes the spirit
of collaboration; every artist has the opportunity to
bring their own personal histories and perspectives
into the work.

The goal of the Summer Intensive Program is to train a
community of artists in a variety of physical
performance disciplines: dance, martial arts, clowning,
physical improvisation, and viewpoints, are used in the
exploration of the boundaries of theatrical expression
through composition. The program will create and
foster ensembles of theater artists. Each ensemble (1
director and 5-7 performers) will create an original
30-minute piece. The 3 week program culminates in a
showing of these pieces, open to the public.

WOW IS SEEKING:
Energetic and creative artists, actors, and theater
directors of all levels of experience who want to
explore narrative through physical/expressionistic
performance styles and who are interested in the
collaborative nature of theater.
