Greetings:
Hey, it's Angie Browne. I graduated from TSOA in 2000 and attended PHTS
1996(orange group) - 1998 and a semester in 1999.
Anyhow I am in the BMI Musical Theater Workshop and my final presentation
as a 1st year is a 10-minute muscial (I've written the book and lyric). So I
need actors, esp actors of color since I like to keep a little reality in the
world
of my piece. The specifics are down below. Please pass along to others if you
can. Also does anyone know where Tara Taylor is? (class of 2000 - Red
group I think, back in 1996).
The presentation will take place on June 9 between 6:15 and 9:30PM.
What's that you say, thats more than 10 minutes? Because it is
musical theater workshop, three or four other short musicals will be
presented as well, so I can't be sure when I will be up at bat.
Working Title: Live Nude Girls Unite - the musical
Time: Present
Characters I still need to cast:
Julia - lead character, exotic dancer, handles comedy exceptionally,
butch lesbian, main organizer of the union mid-twenties any race
(Mezzo-soprano or soprano with Belt)
Scarlott Harlet - big boned woman, in her 40's or 50's, very
maternal alto, former prostitute turned feminist activist supporting
sex workers all around, any race
Dr. Joyce - Julia's Mom, in her 40's or 50's, educated activist, very large
personality, brassy alto, any race
Buxom - exotic dancer, 20's or 30's she IS sex and loves her job.
Think Pamela Anderson/Marilyn Monroe of the group, mezzo-soprano or
soprano with belt
Chorus/The Men - need two or three men. Tenor, baritone with
interesting look..
All actors should be comfortable with rock/pop vocal style as well
as legit music theater. Definitely need strong actors for each part.
If you are interested please write to me and send a headshot and
resume in jpg format if you can, otherwise just tell me a little
about yourself - auditions will be held shortly.
There will be 3 or 4 rehearsals the week of June 2, and you should
be available preferably all day Monday,June 9th so that we can work
in the space. This is just an assignment in a classroom setting, not a theater,
so it doesn't matter if you are Eq or non. There is no pay.
The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop has
been around for over 30 years, writers such as Alan Menken(Little
Shop of Horrors), Maury Yeston (Nine, Titanic), and Ed Kleban (A
Chorus Line) came out of the workshop. Its a great playground for
young up and coming music theater writers. The presentation will be
held at the BMI Foundation on 57th Street in Manhattan.
