We have a requirement to migrate Crystal Reports reports into Jasper Reports. Been Googling this already but seems there's no straightforward way to do this. I was hoping to find more answers from you guys. Thanks a lot in advance.
I've combined Jasper Reports with iReports to come up with a "Crystal Reports" like report designing experience . iReports provided the designing part just like in the CR wherein you can see all the fields and drag them to the Header, Page, Detail, or Footer part (whichever you like), while JasperReports acts as the reporting engine (the component which loads the data you need during runtime).
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

Dear java gurus, need your help please. . .

There is no way you can move from crystal reports to jasper without recreating everything. Maybe the only things that you can reuse there are the queries.
I like openreports vs jasper reports. You should look into this. It is jasper reports plus many more open source reporting solutions combined into one thus you will have an option depending on the type of report you want to generate.

I don't use them a whole lot, but include Sun Studio and NetBeans in
the list. And to the others in the list: read the question carefully.
It's about the best Java IDE *you* have used.

Eclipse and Netbeans are on the top of my list because it is free. I tried IntelliJ before and it was very good but nothing beats free. However, in my opinion there really isn't the best for me since they are all the same it just depends on your familiarity with the IDE, the longer you use it the more you got adept at it.

Netbeans is nice especially for J2ME stuffs. But Eclipse is the best in general

Eclipse has been my favorite for so many years.. until I've tried Intellij Idea for 2months and so.... but I don't mind going back to Eclipse since not all companies provide Intellij.. If you're a newbie on them they don't really have much difference..
So my vote..1. Intellij and 2. Eclipse

NetBeans for me. I got used to it and it is quite handy.

I used RSA (Rational Software Architect) 7.5 at RAD (Rational Application Developer) 7 built-on eclipse din.

Eclipse has become the de-facto for Java based IDE.

hindi pwede. pero kung gusto mo mag VMFusion ka tapos install mo XP tapos RAD or RSA sa loob. Iba pa rin ang performance ng Mac compare to other machine excluded Lenovo Elite ThinkPad W700ds 8GB ...

1. Eclipse - good for standard java app. ant building, embedding is easy.
2. NetBeans - if you're developing webapp better use netbeans. UI changes immediately reflect after saving unlike in eclipse you need to run again. (not sure with galileo)
3. jcreator - very light. ^_____^

Same here. OpenReports has worked very well for us. The interface is
very simple for end users and you can create scheduled reports that
push html reports to a Blackberry. The only thing I couldn't get
working is the OLAP report. If anyone got that working on a MySQL
datasource, please share your datasources.xml and OpenReports Settings.
