Redgee

I still want what I have always wanted -

A more powerful plaxo that manages even larger contact dbases.  I love plaxo but have really been struggling with the recent efforts / GUI and unknown goals of this product.  There is little that has been done recently that makes my address book better, more accurate, less duplicated, less cluttered or easier to even find what I'm looking for.

Actually I feel like I'm having to ask all my contacts to link to me all over again.

I still don't get why I'm not logging into my address book when I log into plaxo - that is what I pay for and now the new interface is like going to the REAL Site and looking for the "Free Player" you know its there - but every time you log in its harder and harder to find!

If you want to promote Pulse - then please do that as a separate product and if there is a need to link the two then fine - but I'm a plaxo member - not a pulse member.

Plaxo is what I pay for and what I'm looking to become a better and better program.

I don't care if someone uploaded new pictures somewhere or twittered somebody - I care about how to contact them by phone or email and if the data is up to date.

Frankly I need another social network like I need a social disease ;-)

Perhaps I can opt into the OLD version again?

Hi Robin

Thanks for chiming in and giving us your feedback.  Well, this thread has sparked discussion within the Product Design team.  Stay tuned and please - keep giving us all your feature requests and input about existing features.  Thanks.

I guess as I set this one rolling I should respond.

I am very surprised at your research findings. Many people including myself and others that have communicated with me are disappointed that the original excellent aim of having a high quality address sharing system has been frankly messed up with all the Facebook look-alike stuff that we now get in Pulse.

OK maybe there are some out there that are happy with it. Did you ever think of offering two services. One like your original plain and straightforward address book facility and your present system for those who want it. Many of my contacts were not interested in joining Plaxo themselves - they might only have a dozen email addresses in their address book - but were happy to update upon request - and you did have a limit which prevented one from sending out updates too often, as I recall. So for me plain straightforward updates were much more effective. Being unable to obtain updates from the many hundreds of contacts I have without them joining Plaxo/Pulse I believe is a backwards step.

I tried the only viable alternative UNYK and frankly it sucks...

Hi Everyone

Apologies for not chiming in sooner but I wanted to address the issue as to why the "Pulse Update Request" feature has been removed.  Well, plain and simple - it was not as successful as the Invite method.  It was also constantly a point of abuse and in the end, it was having a negative impact to non-users as a spam source.

The Invite method, where your contacts would join Plaxo and in return their Contact information would sync with your address book, had a much much higher accept rate, less spam complaints and to some, removed the "creepy factor".

It was a very hard and long decision but we finally reached the conclusion, through data and feedback, that Update Requests were nowhere near as effective as the Invites.

At this time, we don't have any plans of bring back this feature. (sniff).

Subject: [plaxo] Update request facility & peronal profiles on Plaxo/Pulse

Is there some way I can still send out a simple address update request to my contacts (as there used to be in Plaxo), without them having to connect to or join Plaxo/Pulse? I read the response to an earlier similar query on 18/07/08, which seemed to indicate that this was not presently possible, without one's contacts also joining Plaxo/Pulse. If you send your contacts a request to join Plaxo/Pulse, but they opt not to join, there now appears to be no other automated way of getting their updated contact information via Plaxo, as there once used to be. Does Plaxo intend to restore this updating feature in the future?  I certainly believe there is still a much needed place for this facility within Plaxo, especially for one's contacts who do not wish to join Plaxo/Pulse for whatever reason.

On another matter, today I noticed that I now have a personal "Profile" on Plaxo/Pulse, which includes my photo (quite a recent one), and a reasonable amount of personal information (all of which appears to be publicly available via Plaxo/Pulse) . I cannot recall ever placing any of this information within Plaxo/Pulse. The way some of the personal information is worded, it looks suspiciously as though it may have come straight from my Facebook profile, which is supposed to be set so that only my Facebook "friends" can view the information (and I presently only have about 15 registered "friends"). The photograph also looks as though it has come straight from my Facebook profile, as that is the only internet site where I have posted that particular photo. Can you tell me whether the "profile" information made available in Plaxo/Pulse is taken directly from Facebook? I don't really want all that information made publicly available through Plaxo/Pulse, and I have no idea how it got there. Any information you could provide regarding this matter would also be appreciated. Thank you.
