Hi Suchi,
The first step in the exam process is to become a PMI member and also if possible the local PMI chapter. The next step is to fill out the application for the exam. These two are crucial steps since you may run out of time to appear for the exam in the present format. Once you become a member and your application is accepted i.e. with 3 to 4 business days you can pre-emtively set an exam date. This is important so that you are commited and bring some seriousness to the effort. You can always change the date 3 business days before the exam if required. Now for the exam prep; I recommend Rita Mulchay's book and the FasTrack CD. Follow the CD by testing yourself in the process groups and knowledge areas. Refer to the PMBOK and her book by clicking review so that you clearly understand the answer choice. It is imperative that you understand the logic of the choice than to rote memorize it. The exam is tricky but not beyond one's capability if you are logical. Good luck!!!

Hi Anita,
You dont have to be designated to be a project manager to be qualifed to appear for the exam, It is basically dividing the project conceptually into the five process groups as outlined by PMI and stating your role in each one of them. YOU DO NEED TO PRESENT THEM IN PHASES.  All you have do is per project state a few roles using PMI Terms Eg: in the initiation phase: You can state. I was involved in creating the Requirement statement. Did designed, coded and tested the protype. Do not make it very long. A couple of key contributions will suffice.  Please feel to contact me if you need further assistance.

Hi Subramanian,

You need 35 hours of Project Management training, not 35 PDUs.

PDU means Professional Development Unit, a kind of point that you must
collect in order to continue your certification. You must collect 60
PDUs in a CCR (Continuing Certification Requirements) Program Cycle.

"A PMP's first cycle begins on the date they successfully complete the
certification examination and ends on December 31st of the third full
calendar year following the year of their examination." (www.pmi.org)

Take a look at the PDC_PMPHandbook.pdf file for more informations, and
go to www.pmi.org for more education informations.

PMI eligibility says that one requires 4500 hours of Project
Management experience.

I have worked as a Project Leader for more than 2 years in various

being eligible for the PMI cert.

In case you guys have any idea from where I can get to check my

Hello-
all the information you might need regarding taking
the PMP exam can be found on the PMI web site:
http://www.pmi.org/info/default.asp

Click on Professional Development and Careers.

It outlines the requirements to apply for the PMP exam
- work experience(4500hrs), contact hours (35hrs)

You can also look up organizations that provide
preparation courses on the PMI web site.

I took my prep class through my local PMI chapter-
some people think that a prep class is unnecessary but
for me it gave me 21 contact hours and was a really
good overview of the PMI best practices. It was also a
way to meet people studying for the exam. I became
part of a study group that met 1/week. This was also
very helpful and recommended.

You can also buy some studying materials on eBay.

Rita Mulcahy's products are also highly recommended-
her book and FASTrack CD. Some people swear by the
PMBOK, Rita's book and Rita's CD to pass the exam.

Good luck-
Nicole

Hi Suchi

You need 2 months dedicated preparation to certify PMP>

Best way to go about is
1. Get hold of Rita Macluay book and PMP simulation CD.
2. Read PMBOK 2000 atleast twice thouroughly before appearing for the
exam.
