Thanks for the response. As it happened, I hadn't updated my 680, yet
it was still working with an 8 and 16 GB SDHC card. This morning I
completed the update, and although it didn't fix the problem I
originally described, I found a workaround. (I should also point out
that the larger SDHC cards continue to work fine with other uses on my
Treo 680, both before & after the update.)
The workaround was pretty simple, just to stick in a 2GB SD card to
download a licensed audiobook through the Overdrive Media Console to
my Treo using Pocket Tunes as a recognized player. Once that's
finished I copy the files from the 2GB card to the 16GB card and it
works! I imagine the key part is that I copy everything from the
smaller card to the larger one, not just the audio files themselves.
There's some sort of license file that needs to be transferred in
order for the audio to be playable on the larger destination card, and
the easiest way to make sure that happens is just to copy everything over.
