Just a reminder... If you're not using POD
version 1.78d, you're running an older, outdated
version of Personal Open Directory.
Bug fixes and support is available only for the
latest version, always available at:

A new version of the Personal Open Directory is now
available at:
http://www.grohol.com/downloads/pod/
The new version allows direct access to the dmoz.org
Website, instead of collecting data from the Netscape
Open Directory.
With this release, the last of 1999, the two different
versions are now denoted by x.xxd (for the dmoz version)
or x.xxn (for the Netscape version). Both also incorporate
an optional internationalization mod submitted, which you
may or may not need to use on your site.
As always, it's all free!
Happy Holidays and New Years!
Netscape made changes to their Website which will result
in POD appearing not to work any longer. Download the
latest version to fix this problem:

I'm pleased to announce that the Personal Open Directory
v1.50 is now available for download. Numerous minor bug
fixes went into this release, as well as more robust
coding for parsing the Netscape Open Directory.
The biggest difference is, by popular request, the
variables have been moved to their own file, podvars.pm
Enjoy!

Two updates of POD:
1. Netscape changed their main URL back to directory.netscape.com.
This change is made about 10 lines down under where it says
"Main Program" near the top of your pod.cgi file. If it says
"search.netscape.com" there, replace it with "directory.netscape.com
."
2. If you don't want the right-hand column, 1.35 allows you to turn
it off. It's best to just download the whole thing if you want this
because a a fair amount of formatting had to change to implement it.
The development version of POD which I run on my site is not
exactly the same as the released version (it's a lot messier
internally with commented out lines and stuff). Since I do the
changes by hand from one version to another, it's quite possible
that from time to time I will goof up and something won't get
transferred to the release version. I'm not aware of it happening
yet, but I just wanted to give you a heads up if it did.
Best,
John
My apologies to the list; I didn't have the moderation
tag set on what is supposed to be an announcement-only
list for announcing enhancements and bug fixes to the
Personal Open Directory. It's been fixed now.
Users having technical support questions should consult
the support forum on the Web site.
