For my past 2 podcast I have moved them to a new server because of bandwidth
issues this host allows me to serve just the files and no webpages. I have
some very interesting statistics and am finding out that their are a few
people out their that are either using broken software or their software is
not smart enough to pull the podcast only once. I am on the verge of banning
about a dozen IP's as they have all pulled over 500 megs each as the the two
shows combined are only 30 megs. Thus they have pulled the same mp3 at least
8 times each. Very frustrating.
With 8260 downloads between the 2 files we see a break-out of the top 9
clients as follows. I do notice that their where an additional 23,723
request made of the files but they were not downloaded. I guess this is
clients checking to see if their where changes.
iPodder/1.1 10.7%
iPodder/1.1.4 9.65%
Python-urllib/1.15 8.3% <---What app is This
iPodderX/2.2.2 8.23%
iPodderX/2.2.3 6.06%
libwww-perl/5.64 6.03% <--- What app is This
iPodderX/2.2.1D 5.05%
iPodder/1.1.3 4.93%
Doppler 1.1.0.0 3.78%
-------------------------------------
62.73 percent for the Top 9 my stats show another 5 clients for an
additional 10.3 which gives me a grand total of 73.23 percent. I am realy
curious what the other 25% is I can only assume that manual downloads and
misc aggregators that support enclosures make up the remaining totals.
Somewhat confusing to me is the fact that the #14 client is only accounting
for 2.3% of the total downloads and the rest of the 25 is in the chaff. If
anyone has a clue why this would be let me know.
