Hey group, happy new years.

I have put out the first Typical Mac User Podcast.

The Typical Mac User Podcast is a show where the listener and the host
will go on a journey in the everyday ?typical? use of our Apple
Macintosh computers. The show will provide tips, tricks, software and
hardware reviews for the the Mac. Together we'll discover what there
is to learn in the world of Macs. If you are a switcher or new
Macintosh user, subscribe to this podcast.

This will be a short once per week 15 minutes show. Let me know what
you think.

Website: www.typicalmacuser.com

RSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/typicalmacuserpodcast

Anything you can do to help promote the show, I'd appreciate.

Thanks

Yes, they never pushed them out as an official podcast. It was a little
strange.

But, the files are just MP3's. I know I downloaded the ones I wanted and
still have some to listen to at some point waiting for me on my iPod.

also, you can use the DownThemAll extension in firefox to download

I will be at CES from the 3rd through the 6th and doing a few MADCast Podcasts
from the floor with my research colleague and friend, Mike McGuire. We do lack a
portable recording device (since we do our MADcast on the phone), so we're
noodling on how best to do a few reports. Ping me if you want to meet up.

It wouldn't matter. You can subscribe to any podcast manually using
iTunes if you know the RSS feed URL, whether it's listed or not.

Hi all,

HNY!

Various mac based users with dot-Mac accounts are reporting overnight
an increase in monthly transfer allowances in their account settings
up to 1TB.

I believe this is up from 10GB for the standard account (1GB storage).

If this is the case, and verified only for US dot-mac account
holders, it is suggestive of a number of possibilties:

1. Huge iTunes music store shifts wrt video streaming or storage via
dot-mac

2. Apple is finally grasping podcasting by the throat, and will also
release podcast friendly services, hard or software based.

3. New Apple hardware where transfer amounts are a significant aspect.

4. Who knows? Steve was feeling generous.

Storage surely? The bandwidth limit has more to do with files that
you make public - it'd be hard to exceed it doing backups.

plus, if he was worried about video, he would have upped the storage,
not bandwidth

It's selling podcast related domain names on eBay, here:

By the way, note the starting price. This is revised. When I first
saw it a few days ago, it was $240,000... yes, no typo. And no bids -
surprise!

Some early 2006 humour - I think.

I wish you a very good year.

I have heard from podcasters-list@google of a blogger question on podcast
here at yahoo

Is is exactly my way as curator and producer; we are experimenting a certain
blog as podcast in the frame of cognitive art and research, just borning
this week.

First, I am so sorry being unable to speak well English-Us.

My comment on our works is at the same moment artistic and technical
subject: I come to present a podcast / videopodcast.

          1. Artistic

I do not know if French touch still has a slightest sense today, at
least in editorial critical or poetic imagination. But finally I think that
the object which we want to present is anyway singular. In any cases we
concocted in a spirit of artistic creation a critical review of multimedia
radio it podcast / videopodcast, in which we wanted to experiment the video
specially created for the window of the mobile receivers.

Here the basic work is an experimental creation thematic video, a very short
film about the subject of the fire and and the dance, it is a work from two
analogical elements and digital elements, deconstructed in special effects
then integrated by a faking, let us say almost a cartoon film - - You can
imagine easily with which software but I think that the performance in its
destination is made a success... The idea was inspired by the revolt of
suburbs: play with the fire. But also create with the fire. Destroy with the
fire. Switch off the fire... And the cycle of the fire as the metaphor of
the cycle of podcasting calendar...

The idea was to have the impression that the fire is in the iPod - that the
iPod is on fire, that it burns, but also that it is the source of the fire -
the fire as the energy. With an image which does not ask for attention to be
recognized, thus with a simple plastic concept and a relatively abstracted
images which instead of distracting the attention for the sound strengthens
it.... Because the dominant editorial line it was the radio itself as
becoming multimedia radio it did not have to become however a sort of ersatz
of TV.

Other artistic idea was that the thematic video inspires a declension of
fragments which constitute a graphic puzzle, the multimedia sign appointing
an editorial set for whom would get them at distance. Not get the editorial
direction nor its structure, at distance: but perceive the existence of an
editorial direction in ellipse... A cognitive research or experiment
interfering the mind of collector...

          2. Technical and artistic at the same moment: the questiion of the
code and the interface as mobile interface from server to server - the same
as the terminal mobile: ipod, but not by the same way as interface.

The base source is the LoGz Beta of Loz, his last one so it is not
still ready version; but I took him of speed to take out this podcast before
the beginning of the year...

Why the loGz? Because it interested the friend who made the sources to
experiment as possible support of podcast in it. No blog on mutualized
server but a blog free downloadable as a kit podcast to any Php4 with
MySQl version 5 server.

As we do not pay the work in criticalsecret, everything becomes always the
demo interest, the experimental performance for people who contribute or
compete to it and who play the game as such: try what they could not make
somewhere else or otherwise for the stage where they are there. And as
curator and producer I take the risk.

Here the question of the iPod put that of the demo interface on internet...
Thus to help in the settling of the capable LoGz béta to performer the
podcast / videocast as downloadable interface free of charge useful for
everyone wanting very fast to publish a podcast.
The interface LoGz as supporting rss and thus cannot being able to offer a
base of downloading because too heavy for the page as blog, but only a base
rss successful: it is the case we verified it in every case.

And furthermore it is a place of demo of mp3 and m4v, demo in popups, that
cannot report of the final effect in the window of the ipod. But check at
least if people want to see what they download before making it, so by this
way they can come to see... counting that a local downloading is possible in
a html page html accessible by a linked tittle...

As regarding Internet: the on-line interface walks impeccably on
Firefox; where we are not fired) by affair yet it is that this beta version
bugs on Explorer and on Opera (same bug: The diary of the titles coming
loose of the calendar...)
Thus I inform you about all this before everything is completed.. But Beta
for beta, so much to subject the work such as it is among the passionate
tech question and of video production applied to the videopodcast.

Another detail which remains to adjust: it is the normalization of
English-spoken texts to give an idea of an editorial line necessarily mostly
in French. All the abstracts are bilingual. But what remains most to be
afraid they are my proper explanations in English...

Naturally I speak very badly about English and my own wild imaginings must
be corrected these next days. But you will meet yourselves there maybe?

Please tell me what yout can see and think of our experimental
podcast/videopodcast...

Louise

--------------------------------------------
Hello les amis ! Bonjour Loiez D.

Folks-

I'm going to be spending a lot of time in airplanes this week (some work
things, and podcastercon). I was thinking of doing some recording in
the plane but am worried about the background noise. Does anyone have
advice on dos and don'ts for airplane 'casting?

Thanks!

That's an interesting idea. My first thought is, where would you
record? The bathroom? If you just sat in your seat and talked into a
microphone, you'd either have to do it rather quietly (in which case
the noise probably would overwhelm you) or loudly and clearly (in
which case you'd annoy the other passengers around you).

If you can solve that problem, then my advice would be not to worry
about the engine noise during recording. When you're doing
postproduction later on, you can apply noise reduction and minimize
it. My tool of choice is SoundSoap, but Audacity and most other
editors come with adequate noise reduction functions. The result
won't be perfect, but it should be good enough. If you just say "I'm
on a plane" your listeners will probably understand.

I did a fear of flying podcast early in the year, using an Aiwa lapel
mike of many years vintage, and it worked fine as long as it was
fairly close to my mouth.

There was still some aircraft noise, PAs from the crew etc., but in
my case it was all in context and added to the feel i was trying to
achieve.

YMMV, however.

Hi Sean,

I did some recording on a plane back in January of last year when I
was flying to and from India and then again in Feb when I went to China.

I used a Noise Canceling USB head set. It actually sounded pretty
good all things considered.

My headset was the one that comes with IBM's via voice. Andrea Anti-
Noise USB NC-7100

Good luck and please say hi at the podcasterCon.

Hey Sean,

You might want to tell the passengers in the seats
around you what you are doing. Spread the word about
podcasting. In fact, if they have interesting stories
to tell, you might want to include them.

If you have any problems with noise, let me know. I
have really good noise reduction software and I would
be more than happy to run it through.

Hauoli makahiki hou (Happy New Year) from the Digital
Slob in Waikiki. Once your subsiding hangover allows
you to giggle without getting nauseated, check out my
latest podcast (though I always suggest taking two
Tums before listening to my show regardless of time of
year, just to be safe).

I've posted DIGITALSLOBPOD 2005 YEAR IN REVIEW: PART
ONE ... check out the quick intro on my myspace page

http://www.myspace.com/digitalslob

... or listen to the whole thing here

http://digitalslob.com/Resources/digitalslobpod.015.123105.mp3

I'm missing the Consumer Electronics Show again this
year, but I don't care, because I've got a friend with
a time machine and we go to the 2018 CES several times
a year ... you can get a glimpse of that in this
episode ;-).

If you want to comment, just e-mail me and I'll fit it
in on Parts Two and Three TBA.

Happy New Year again, and remember it's not just my
show, it's our show, so for God's sake roll the window
down and stick your head out if you think you might
puke on it.

Aloha,
Curt

I would definitely tell the people around you what you are doing.
They might think that you are talking on your cell through some sort
of headset and get angry. Tell at least the people sitting next you
and if someone else asks, they can probably defend you.
