Hi all

Thanks for your help a week or so ago, as to where to post our school
podcast. We have posted our first podcast on Podomatic for now. We would
love you to visit us at http://russley.podomatic.com/

You can also learn a little more about us at
http://www.russley.school.nz/Podcasts.htm We used Garageband to create our
podcasts, including the music and jingles.

Looking forward to your messages of support for our students :-)

Any ideas of how we can do things better can be emailed to me here at this
podcasters group. One thing Iım aware of is the file size...

Best wishes
Carol

Check out www.lenswork.com . They have a PDF they call "QuickViews" which
embed some images and voice clips into the PDF file for a multimedia
presentation. It's interesting, but I don't think it is quite there for
podcasting. What I think is most enticing about podcasting is the mobility
of it and a PDF would leave it all alone on a PC.

Look into Audacity to work with your sound files (and possibly record also).
It runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I have to come clean and confess that I've been lurking on this fine
list for months
and have therefore been fortunate enough to share in your collective knowledge,
which
means that I'm finally feeling brave enough to jump (or at least wade in a
little) into the
podcasting waters!

As my talents don't fall into either music composition or graphic design, I've
taken the
decision to find people skilled in those fields to provide my show music and
graphic. The
music is coming from a friend's band, while I'm shelling out a small amount to
get the
graphic I want designed instead of picking out a copyright free image. I don't
think that
there will be any copyright disputes with either of these people, but have
decided that it
might be best to cover myself and the show by having some sort of contract.

I know that the Podcast Brothers have an Interview/Guest release available on
their site but
I haven't been able to come across any similar releases for graphics or music in
my various
searches. Several of the podcasts I listen to do use a particular track for
their show or have
mentioned that someone designed their logos so I was wondering if anyone could
point
me in the right direction?

The show, when it launches, will be called Directors Notes and will interview
various visual
artists about how their films, animations, motion graphics etc. were created. To
accompany the interviews we also want to include the short pieces of work or an
extract
for longer pieces in the feed so listeners can see what we were discussing, so I
suppose I'd
also need a release to cover the interviewees' work too.

I apologise that my first post is all asking and not giving, but hopefully I'll
be able to
provide help too as I learn more.

The show isn't live yet as we're still in the process of arranging interviews
and selecting
work but anyone who's curious can see our site at www.directorsnotes.com it they
want.

Thanks for the help

Free Hosting: go to Odeo and/or Our Media. (Although Our Media is
having problems --log in and upload -- this week). Another option is
A-Infos Radio Project...

For blog building employ Blogger and combine that with Performancing
(which means you should browse the web with Firefox). You also need to
note this DIY:

http://www.podcastingnews.com/articles/Make_Podcast_Blogger.html

Then generate your feed --if you want -- with Feedburner although Odeo
or A Infos will generate a feed for you.

It all depends on how you want to create your podcasts as there are
many ways to do that even if you rely on Audacity as your editor.

There's also a free podcast production program from Spain : Pod
Producer -- handy if you want to be improvisational like radio.

I am new to Audacity having used Wave Pad for a few years. I like the fact
that there are multiple tracks but am having trouble learning how to use
them efficiently. For instance our latest podcast "Davy Crockett" needed 3
tracks - one for vocals, one for music and one for SFX. All of them were
different Hz (44000Hz, 48000Hz, and 11025 Hz). I am sure (well at least I
certainly hope) there is a better way to add music and SFX snippets at
certain insertion point on the vocal track than what I am doing at the
moment. Right now I am adding silence - which is being generated on all
three tracks - putting the clips in and then going back and cutting out the
silence on the tracks where it is not needed. I am wasting a lot of time
trying to get everything to line up properly again. If I don't add the
silence the clip ends up in the wrong place.

What to do?

The tool with the arrows on both sides of the line can be used to slide a
track around so you can position one track against another. Saves a lot of
time instead of inserting silence.

Indeed, this is the way to do it. I have a need to add silence and had to go
back to the previous version, which only added silence in the track that was
selected. I'm not sure whether this is a bug or a feature (or both).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that you can get stats if hosted
by Our Media. For me, stats are critical - if I gauged my listenership by
feedback then I would have faded long ago.

The news unfolded pretty quickly... And, well, I for one don't know
enough to say a lot about it.

Rocketboom was for a long time the only video podcast I bothered with.
It wasn't always great, and it got sidetracked pretty often into
things that I didn't find interesting at all, but it never really
failed to entertain, and never hesitated to experiment. There are
funnier video podcasts today -- ZeFrank is sharper on the "shred the
news" front, and Ask a Ninja is perfect within its scope -- but I
don't know of any that are more ambitious in their production goals.

Anyway, it doesn't sound like it's dead. And who's to say that this
won't turn out to be a good thing for them? When Jon Stuart took over
on The Daily Show, I thought there was no way that he could do it
better than Craig Kilborn. That's not the *most* wrong I have ever
been in my life, but it's pretty high up there.

Too soon to say what's real and what's not... and frankly, no matter
who's got the real story (or a more sincere version of the whole
story), RocketBoom will fail, or not, with a new host, and Amanda will
succeed... or not.

I'm banking on Amanda, personally. RocketBoom's future success will
depend on the charisma of Amanda's replacement. Amanda has the
advantage of taking her charisma with her in whatever she does.

Fanboy,

That's why this list is so great.
No high-pitched twittering about RocketBoom, The View, or how much
Britney Spears weighs this week.

One of those things is not like the others, Chris.

But you're right. This list certainly isn't an "Online
Music/Fashion/Entertainment Community." It sounds like you wouldn't
find such a thing to your tastes.

Actually, I'd go the other way. Charisma like that isn't common, but
it's not unique. Good producers with a sense of vision and the
technical ability to achieve it are rarer. And *particular* visions,
like Rocketboom, are unique. When you're part of something different
that's succeeding, it doesn't seem smart to leave it to do what
everyone else is doing.

I could be wrong, of course. And I don't know what Amanda's planning
or what she's already got set up. But Hollywood just seems to see
this story over and over. When I read the news on PodcastingNews.com,
the first thing I thought was "Claudia Christian." Remember how she
left _Babylon 5_ for bigger things? Anyone heard of anything she's
done since?

Amanda's got talent, yes. With Rocketboom she was using that talent
to do something no one else was doing, and the world paid attention.
As an actress in L.A.? Well, I wish her luck. And I'll probably see
what she's in, as long as it isn't a Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie.

Not even a little bit.

That's why this list is a pleasure to read, regardless of your posts

I'd actually like to know what happened behind the scenes. Thinking purely
from a business perspective, you would think that Amanda owning a minority
stake would be bad. Amanda after all is the face of rocketboom and also I'm
sure she was pretty creative and helping writing the show. If you go to the
rocketboom site now, it says that Amanda wanted to leave for LA, and that
there were opportunities for her there. Rocketboom in turn didn't want to or
couldn't move to LA. Nasty situation here...

Please, don't try and write your own RSS feed. You may try, but for the sake
of simplicity and validation, use software instead. It's muchless
error-prone and often faster. You can choose between putting a script on
your website, or a local software application. There are several options
availible. Otherwise, look here, for a tutorial on writing your own RSS

It simply boils down to good business planning. When you go into business
with someone, one of the most important things you can do is come up with as
many break-up scenarios as possible, agree on how to handle them and put
them in writing before you get started. If you do this at the beginning when
things are good, it's less likely to have nastiness when things aren't going
well because you agreed to a plan when all parties were clear and level
headed.

It appears there weren't contingency plans in place for Rocketboom, which is
why we're seeing their dirty laundry now.

The main reason I use Feedburner is because they take care of my RSS feeds,
with the enclosures and the iTunes all of that business.
