Just FYI - Dreamhost is having a Superbowl deal for today

"Sign up <https://signup.dreamhost.com/> *today* for a *risk-free trial* of
a *one-year* hosting plan using the promotional code "*777*" and you'll get
an *entire year of web hosting* (including a domain registration) for just *
$9.24!* That's 92% off our normal pricing!"

Regular price is $8.95 per month.

Hey Calvin,

We'd be glad to swap promos with you and most other podcasts. Just
email me directly.

Our listeners are fans of SciFi and fantasy (aka genre) TV so our
audiences may not be the best match for each other but nothing
ventured; nothing gained.

As far as finding other podcasts to swap with I started with the
podcasts I listened to. Those podcasts will often play promos for
other shows which leads me to more podcasts. You get the picture. ;)

I'll also post threads in discussion forums that I visit asking folks
to recommend good podcasts to listen to and that will give me more
ideas. It takes a little bit of networking but most podcasters want to
support podcasting so they are open to swap promos.

Good luck,

Kevin

Bought it. I have the phantom powered V63M and needed a new 'direct to computer'
microphone. If this version of the microphone is half as good as the phantom
powered version, this is a great deal.

If you sign up with a podcast host, you won't need to upload an RSS file
as one will be generated for you. Submit THAT to iTunes & other places.

If all you have is onboard sound (As in a sound card or chip WITHOUT a
"What-U-Hear" feature that exists on many SoundBlasters which will allow
people to hear what you are sending quite nicely & WITHOUT sounding like
a mic being pointed at a speaker), then you will find it VERY hard
unless you either get a SoundBlaster that has this feature or get a
hardware audio mixer.

Hope this helps.....

Cheers :D

Or just go computer to computer via Skype with the person at the other
end. That would help.....

Any music shop that sells instruments should have what you're looking
for (Provided they sell DJ gear & not just instruments that is).

Well I got a audio card that will free up my on board audio. But I'm trying
to keep everything pretty much computer and software, not really anything
else like mixers and stuff like that. I trying to do this a different way
than then current way of doing things. I do see where everybody is coming
from, but anybody get what I'm coming from? For me it easy to have last
things to laying around then having more stuff to worry about. Audacity is a
nice tool but it don't do everything I'm looking for really. I was wondering
if anybody found software that does that? I found one thing but it so out of
date it don't work with today's stuff.

A really good place to put it would be the Podcast Promos thread on the
Podcast Pickle Message Board. That's where I put mine.

Just be sure to include a link either to THE WEBPAGE (Either directly or
indirectly via a shortened URL) or to the promo itsrelf (DIRECTLY
instead of via the shortened URL you gave below We can't download it if
we have to go through a Twitter-friendly URL to do it).

Hope this helps.....

Cheers :D

St. Petersburg, FL—Feb. 12, 2011 – Husband and wife actors
America Olivo (Bitch Slap, Circle, Friday the 13th) and Christian
Campbell (`Law Order: SVU,' Neighbor, Reefer Madness: The
Musical) appear together on Mr. Media® Radio Interviews
(http://www.mrmedia.com <http://www.mrmedia.com> ) with host Bob
Andelman. The exclusive interview — available for streaming or
download as either video or audio file — has the recently married
couple talking openly about their current high-profile projects:
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark on Broadway for her, HBO's fifth and
final season "Big Love" for him.

In Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Olivo understudies several lead and
minor roles including "Arachne" and "Aunt May." As part
of a cast that has been together for more than seven months and a record
number of preview performances, she has survived the most expensive and
most scrutinized Broadway musical in history.

And as the newest member of HBO's popular polygamy dramedy, "Big
Love," Campbell thought he was signing on for a multiple year run as
virginal, 35-year-old Mormon schoolteacher Greg Ivey. But he, like the
rest of the cast, learned after the fifth episode that this would, in
fact, be the show's final season.

Some of you (Particularly in the Video Blogging Group) are interested in
this but to make sure I reach EVERYONE, I'm posting to BOTH the Video
Blogging & Podcasters Groups.

As others already know, I've been working on a group of podcasts
designed to take listeners & viewers alike well.....BACK TO THE FUTURE

Be it an Old Time Radio show from the 1940s, a Classic TV show from the
1960s, a Classic TV Commercial **OR** one those Classic Monster Movie
you find on the Internet Archive - THEY WILL HAVE IT ALL!!!!!

Right now, I only have one ready to go (And even that's a teaser) & it's
@ http://backtothefuturetvclassicsoaps.blogspot.com/ (Up until now, this
had been hosted only on Mevio, which is where all the downloadable files
will be stored)

To make it easy for viewers to preview their downloads, I'll be taking
advantage of WebM encoding technology as much as possible so that I can
embed the video RIGHT ON THE PAGE instead of just simply pasting a
Quicktime Player skinned screen capture (I wish I can do the same with
audio files though but alas I can't :( ).

Also, unlike other Old Time Radio & Classic TV podcasters who merely
download the content, perhaps do some transcoding (Maybe?) & REUPLOAD
what's already available elsewhere (These people may as well not even
bother with hosting beyond a blog site - JMO though :) ), I AM TAKING
THE TIME TO CLEAN UP THE AUDIO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. This is so that it
can be enjoyable to listen to & audible in even the noisiest of
environments WHILE AT THE SAME TIME not losing ANYTHING that made the
audio and/or video look and/or sound so good back in its era.

In fact, the cleaning process is what slowed me down & forced me to stop
earlier.

In addition to the Classic TV Soap Operas Podcast mentioned above, there
will also be these podcasts to look for as well.....

BACK TO THE FUTURE RADIO - Old Time Radio Shows (Except Soap Operas)
BACK TO THE FUTURE RADIO SOAP OPERAS - Old Time Radio Soap Operas
BACK TO THE FUTURE TV - Classic TV Shows (Except Soap Operas)
BACK TO THE FUTURE TV CLASSIC TV COMMERCIALS - Classic TV Commercials
BACK TO THE FUTURE MOVIES - Classic Movies (Many of which aired on TV)

Finally, I have devoted an entire podcast to the old radio show WHATEVER
BECAME OF..... hosted by Richard Lamparsky (Sp?) of WEBO/WBAI fame (New
York City). The show features conversational interviews with the stars
of radio (Many of whom later went on to TV once radio stopped
broadcasting dramas & the like)

So STAY TUNED to this thread for announcements on the launching of the
other podcasts.....

Cheers :D

Pat, this is a great idea, and it sounds like fun. Unfortunately the video
format you have chosen doesn't work on an iPad. That is the device that I'm most
likely to watch this type of content on.

Cian, I listened on my laptap, with Walkman-type headphones. Your volume
was low (I turned it up as high as I could), but I didn't hear any
distortion. It sounded fine, just not enough volume.

Yup, sorry for wasting your time on that. Turns out it was the output on the
Blue mic itself, which was really something I should have tested.

Thanks so much for replying though! I've deleted the audio from the server so as
not to waste anybody else's time.

Hi Everyone.

I would really appreciate your help.

On Friday 8th April I am to present a two hour radio show consisting of the
TOP 20 songs by Bryan Adams as voted for by the public. I have placed the
following item on the official Bryan Adams website forum: -

QUOTE

I'll be presenting a show featuring the top 20 songs of BRYAN ADAMS on
PHOENIX FM, a local radio station in Brentwood, Essex here in the UK on
Friday the 8th April between 10pm and midnight local time (which will be GMT
+ 1). Although most of you will be beyond the range of our FM outlet on 98
Mhz, you will still be able to catch the show on line either at
http://www.phoenixfm.com/index.php or
http://www.phoenixfm.com/listen-now.php if that proves more reliable.

Right now you have the chance to influence the chart by voting for your
favourite BRYAN ADAMS songs. Just go to
http://www.phoenixfm.com/top20-bryanadams.php and follow the instructions.

Look forward to hearing from you and playing your favourite BRYAN ADAMS
tracks.

All the best,

Scott

UNQUOTE

Whilst I hope that this will produce some suitable reactions I cannot be
sure of either the size or quality of response. I would really appreciate it
if you felt able to take part in the vote and/or spread the word amongst
your friends and colleagues as I am naturally anxious to make this a
successful exercise. To say it would be embarrassing if no one bothered to
vote, or submitted daft replies, is somewhat of an understatement.

Any help you can offer in this connection would be extremely welcome.

Thanks N Rgds,

John (AKA Scott!)

If you only include short clips (say, approximately 30 seconds of each
song), you should be fine in most circumstances, as (at least here in the
U.S.) this is legal under fair-use law.

Hello everyone,

On the first of January this year, I launched my production company,
Dawnforge Productions(thedawnforge.com). I brought my two existing
shows, All Things Azeroth and Group Quest, under that banner to bring
unity to the shows I do. Since then we have launched a new show, a
weekly music show playing great podsafe music, and brought in a third
World of Warcraft show, Obscurecast, to round out the Warcraft side of
the network. We have a few new shows in the works right now, but while
those get ironed out I am trying to build audiences for the current
shows that are not where I'd like them to be.

I have added the shows to most of the bigger podcast directories, and
of course all of them are on iTunes. The shows I am really trying to
build up right now are Group Quest(thegroupquest.com), a weekly round
table World of Warcraft podcast, Halfway Around the
World(halfway.dawnforgeshows.com), a weekly podsafe music show hosted
by Jen of Inside my Head and Gemini Dragon, and Colin of the
Ourobouros Podcast, and lastly we have Obscurecast(Obscurecast.com), a
UK based World of Warcraft podcast hosted by Gazimoff and Pewter.

I was hoping some folks here might have some ideas on what directories
or resources I can use to get these shows more widely known around the
net. I am working on promos for the shows, but not sure what music
shows play Promos, though I have the Warcraft shows lined up.

I would love to know how much "market share," so to speak, the different
directories have in terms of how many downloads they generate relative to
the overall number of podcast downloads. But I have seen not credible data
on that.

I use feedburner as a front end for my podcast feed and due to historical
issues and mess, I actually have two. One feedburner feed is used strictly
for the iTunes feed and the other feed is used for all other directories. I
haven't crunched the numbers, but I'm guessing 85% of traffic from
directories/RSS Feeds comes from iTunes. All the others (Zune, Blackberry,
Podcast Pickle, etc etc) make up about the other 15%. That's just a
guesstimate.

One thing that has really surprised me is how many people listen to my
podcast just by visiting the show page on my blog and clicking the flash
player. Again, I don't have hard numbers, but I'm guessing that at least
half, maybe two thirds of my total downloads are from the show page itself.
When I publish an episode, I promote the show page heavily. I send the link
to it around to a few mailing lists etc etc to announce the episode. So
that's why so many people listen to it that way.

I try to promote subscribing to the RSS feed in iTunes or the other
directories, but so far I have not been very successful in converting show
page visitors to subscribers.

To see an example of my show page.

Taproot Radio Podcast #26 - Paul Thorn
<http://www.taprootradio.com/2011/02/trp26-paul-thorn-interview-and-music.html>
Taproot Radio Podcast #27 - Paradise of Bachelors
<http://www.taprootradio.com/2011/02/trp27-paradise-of-bachelors.html>

One of my concerns is how mobile browsers can deal with podcast downloads.
Because the apple hone does not support flash, people who come to a show
page cannot listen to the episode via the flash player in the page. So I
have just a regular link to the MP3 file people can click. The link is right
under the flash player but it is not very prominent. I also add the episode
as an enclosure link for the post. That shows up when people read the site
blog in an RSS reader. That helps a little.

Anyone else have data they can share in terms of web page downloads vs
subscriptions and which directories generate the most downloads?

Is it possible to use the "user agent" field in web logs to get a breakdown
of where the most downloads are coming from?

This works for me. I have an iPhone, and I am USED to flash players not
showing up... so it's great that you have a direct link as an alternative.
When I look at it on my phone it's very clear what I should do to get to
listen.

I am using facebook with the Blubrry PowerPress plugin for my show. It uses
a flash player unless the browser doesn't support flash, in which case it
automagically replaces the player with a link.

Calvin, I don't think it's that simple. The access methods vary
tremendously, depending on your podcast subject. I do three podcasts, and I
doubt that any of my listeners have ever seen a podcast directory.

My shows are on treasure hunting, adult slowpitch softball, and old-time
radio. My listeners are outdoorsmen, athletes, and senior citizens. They
find my show because I post on message boards and forums dedicated to those
subjects. My sig line has a link to my podcast, and that is where I get
virtually all my listeners.

Podcasts about podcasting, video games, technology, etc, are found by people
cruising the podcast directories, but not mine. Maybe not yours, either.

I don't have any hard numbers either but I agree with a lot of what Dan said.

A few years ago podcasting directories did bring in some listeners for
my podcasts but not so much anymore. People now seem more likely to
do simple Google searches or look for iTunes recommendations of
similar podcasts when they do iTunes searches. All simple word of
mouth works very well. I'm involved in many online communities for
the topics I cover and my email signature and my forum signatures
include links to my podcasts which brings in folks.

I also agree that having a nice flash web player on your website/blog
is very important since many of our listeners say they listen while at
work so they simply stream the episodes that way.

Good luck,

Kevin
