Since there was some interest in the first RoShamBo competition,
here is the announcement of the follow-up contest.
- Darse.

The Second International RoShamBo Programming Competition

The second Rock-Paper-Scissors competition is hereby announced!

The deadline for submissions is Monday, July 10, 2000.

The complete rules, FAQ, sample program, and test suite are available
via the RoShamBo webpage:

http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~darse/rsbpc.html

Please pass this message along to anyone you think may be interested.

Several people in the first competition made excellent suggestions on
ways to embellish the tournament format. However, I've decided to
keep the contest structure very similar to the original. This will
ensure a high level of consistency between the two events, and should
also reduce the effort required to run the competition. (Future
contests will likely have some interesting twists, such as different
pay-off values, three-player matches, and so on).

However, there will be a special side competition for particularly
small programs, so don't let the challenge of beating Iocaine Powder
deter you from submitting a relatively simple entry. As a guideline,
programs in this category should be no more than 40 C statements long.
Since this isn't necessarily a precise measure, I will use the number
of lines, keywords, size of the object file, and my own discretion to
decide which programs qualify for this side contest.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the second generation of RoShamBo
programs are capable of. Have fun with it, and best of luck!
- Darse.
