Hi my name is Dan. I live in a coastal town north of Boston more specifically Cape Anne. People in Massachusetts call it the other Cape in Ma. as apposed to Cape Cod. It is just as nice , but easier to get to by car. Our house is nestled in a fairly wooded area. We have some nice sunny spots in our 2 acre lot. I love growing everything. Behind our house is a stone staircase leading up to an octagonal building called "the tea-house". At the bottom of the staircase sits my 6 vegetable beds. I need to reconfigure them. Right now they are 6X9 ft. I have some difficulty getting in the middle of them for basic up-keep, and harvesting. For the past 3 years I have rotated 5 of the beads with all kinds of tomatoes, squash, zinnias, pole beans, peas, bush beans, peppers, parsley, cucumbers, and more. One is dedicated to strawberries. I have smaller beds with garlic,
onions, shallots, and different herbs. I also have some nice flower beds with all kinds of flowers. Some of my favorites are Bea-balm, nicotiana, lavender, rosemary, different types of mint. We have 5 pear trees, blueberry bushes, black berries, red raspberries and one very old apple tree.
We also have a worm bin, and one beehive.
I am hoping to here some ideas by other members on successful heirloom varieties and any new techniques for successful growing and harvesting of crops.
Niels I like your philosophy and hope that I can add something to your group. This summer I plan on taking pictures of all of my plants, both native Ma. species and ones planted by me in my garden. I will take notes and try to post some information.
Does anybody have any favorite medicinal herbs besides the usual
suspects? Does anyone know any reputable not so well-known organic medicinal seed suppliers? I'm am getting ready to buy seeds.
Thank you kindly, Dan
