Hi, I'm new.
I'm in west Texas near the Panhandle, zone 7a/b border. I have recently
moved outside of town and now have room for a large garden, permanent
landscaping of all sorts, etc. I did your standard monoculture garden
in town. I did play with some biointensive stuff with beans, and that
worked well for me. However I've been reading, and decided to go to
permanent beds with walkways and do polyculture in my beds, although
what's in the beds will need to rotate in a lot of cases.
I think I am probably going to end up with some monoculture beds, beans
will take the whole bed if you put them on a grid pattern rather than
just doing a standard rows, but I know there will be room between
peppers and tomatoes, neither of which like to be crowded by things that
compete with them. I need to find things that I can plant in between
that don't compete. I had been thinking about things like basil, but
that's about as far as I get before my mind turns into mush. I know
part of that is just not being familiar with a lot of other plants.
Never had time for them, so I'm not familiar with them.
This year will be a learning experience, I'm open to suggestions at this
point.
Happy growing!
