Sails and rigging can weigh thousands of pounds. Weight on a boat is not so
important since most boats need ballast weight anyway.

Hard to say without trying it. In the 80s I played with brushless motors for boats and did the solar thing to another island and back for a 20 mile open ocean...

IMO you would be better off with a small Minkota trolling motor. Much more quite and will last you longer at a good price....

A sail for that little 10 foot dinghy, with all of its rigging, probably weighs around 25 pounds. It's a high quality dacron sail and it powers that boat...
