When you change positions, the size of the bar depends on the new
position, what heights and widths are set for the bar and individual
buttons, whether 3d sizing frame is set, whether border is set,
roundness settings, and other things that I have forgotten. You are
right that different positions may interpret these sizing settings
differently, probably for no good reason.

You can adjust the above-mentioned sizing setttings or drag 3d sizing
frame (if checked) to get the look you want.
