Thanks. Unbelievable, but then again sometimes we're amazed for
the best and other times it's things like this.
I'll investigate the addin.

You’re not missing anything. You have to
do this manually in PPT. Unfortunately, there’s not a magic button for it.
But Bill Dilworth has an add-in called
Slide XX of YY that will do what you want. It’s free.
I am new to PowerPoint. I managed to create a simple presentation through trial and error. I saved it and the file said pptx. It would not open on the laptop at the program. I was terribly embarrassed, but had a previous version that did open, I think it just said ppt. It must have to do with whether the computer you're using to show it has version 2007 installed on it or not, but any clarification on this would be appreciated. What is the "safest" way to save a file if you don't know what version other computers have?
Thanks for the explanation about saving a presentation so that it will work on another computer-
Another question if I may ask- I created a photo album that I'd like to insert into a PP presentation, but don't know how to go about it. Would appreciate help with this-

I’m confused. Have you already inserted the pictures into PPT and
need to get those slides into another presentation, or do you mean that you
need to get a bunch of pictures into PPT?
If the latter, see this:

If the former, then which version of PPT are you using?
Hello friends,
Could you please suggest me if we can translate powerpoint files with the help

Hello group, this is my first question. I appreciate your help.
I've made a Mac PP presentation of images of my digital art. All's fine with
slides, timing, transitions, etc.
A friend will compose music for the 7:20 min. presentation. He wants to lock the
presentation so the music will always match the slide. Here are our questions,
problems.
Any movie conversion degrades the screen quality of the images, image is
pixilated.
Is there a movie conversion that maintains the original quality and runs
automatically at full screen on any monitor?
The original PP runs 7:20 while a movie of the same presentation runs 6:49. Is
this normal? It maters to us if music should sync to the slides.
I've tried another approach, setting PP to "no mouse advance" but this doesn't
prevent spacebar advances. I've put it on a CD and opened in another computer
but I can still advance with the space bar. Any way to prevent ANY advances by
the viewer?
I'm on a Mac using 10.4.11 and Office 2008.
Thanks if anyone can help.
I will be out of the office starting 10/19/2009 and will not return until
11/02/2009.
I will respond to your message when I return. If you need to contact

PowerPoint is notoriously bad at keeping things in time - and the next time you play them keeping things the SAME time.
If you are going down the convert to movie route... and the original powerpoint plays 7:20 and your movie plays 6:49, then I suggest padding out the odd slide with a little bit more time... until your movie ends up at 7:20. eg If you have 31 slides, add 1 second to each of them.
>I've put it on a CD and opened in another computer but I can still advance with the space bar. Any way to prevent ANY advances by the viewer
I think if you 'tick' "browsed at a kiosk (full screen) on the "slideshow" setup - that may work.

Thanks, slideshow setup, Kiosk did the trick. No keys advance slides.

Thanks again for the first solution.
Can you start "slideshow" anywhere in a presentation instead of starting with
slide one? My musician friend wants to start slideshow anywhere in its middle to
see slide time progression, without having to start from slide one and wait for
what he needs to see.
PS: for some reason I resisted learning/using Powerpoint but I'm loving it and
appreciate this group.

I've been using some templates that use photos (jpeg) as backgrounds.
Mostly, I've been using them for presentations, so I haven't had to
print them. Recently, I used one of the templates in one of my course
offerings, and the print quality was awful. When the jpegs were
copied, they just looked black.
I tried printing in grayscale and B&W as well as color, and nothing
worked.
Any suggestions?
Duncan
I've had a similar problem in the past with TIFs.. Confirm that the image you
are experiencing this problem with is in fact a JPG. It is iws a TIF convert it
to a JPG.

Definitely jpeg.
Come to think of it, I've also had problems with JPEGs when I "insert
picture" on individual slides.

Think I found a solution ... found it here
<http://www.bitbetter.com/powertips.htm
> after googling "printing powerpoint slides."
Select "View | Grayscale" and right-click on any object on a slide or
on the master. The pop-up menu shows "Grayscale options" which lets
you choose from about 8 options. For the JPEGs that were giving me
trouble, I selected "don't print," but there is also a "light
grayscale" option that I will investigate when I get back to my printer.
I think that I will also have to select "grayscale" when printing, but
that's okay.
Duncan
Yes, you can change the B/W or Grayscale setting for individual
objects using that method. (In B/W or Grayscale view, select the object, then
use Settings to change its settings.)
This doesn’t affect the color in the presentation, only
the black and white/grayscale print settings.
Yes, you must choose B/W or Grayscale when you print in order
for these settings to kick in.
You might also want to check to see if your JPGs are CMYK
instead of RGB. That can sometimes cause printing issues. You might also have color
profiles set up in Photoshop. PPT doesn’t recognize these. http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00627.htm
isn’t exactly what you describe, but it may be relevant in this case.

From as much as I can gather, there was a beta version that was
available until June 30th, 2008 and then the final version was
supposed to be available July/August 2008 at the Office Download Center,
however, I cannot find it.
I am a corporate media producer and have several on-going
projects that use Producer 2003. I am concerned about Producer 2003’s
compatibility with newer browsers and Powerpoint 2007, so I would really
appreciate getting the latest version of Producer so I can convert existing
presentations.
Is it Microsoft’s feeling that I should use the “Publish
to web” feature in Powerpoint 2007 rather than using Producer? If that is
the case then I need to learn more about how the “Publish to web”
feature handles video and audio files. I would also like to know if it’s
possible to alter the appearance of the web page that’s created. A link
to a tutorial would be appreciated.

Nah, “publish to web” isn’t good.
You can get Producer on connect.microsoft.com. You’ll need
a Windows Live ID to access it. I thought it was a public beta, so if you can’t
get to it for some reason, please let me know.

One more question. I've asked this before, but let me give it one more shot.
When Producer 2003 first came out you could request a copy on disk. On the disk, along with Producer was a little program called (I think) CSS Maker. CSS Maker was a very simple program that created templates for Producer. Unfortunately, I can't find my copy. Do you know if it's still available someplace?

There have been several threads about third party programs to convert pp to
video.
I have Windows media encoder on my machine to use as a streaming encoder to do
live video.
I had a desire to post examples of some power point animations on the web and I
thought I would give it a try,
Encoder will let you select a window (program) as the source of the video to go
to the encoder and you can select the output to be a .wmv file among other
formats.
Ended up setting the whole machine up at 800 x 600 for the project but it does
work. The only issue is color rendition. I did not take time to figure it out
why why but the colors went to web colors and gradation was not an option. Had
to convert several backgrounds to simple colors for better results.
I know that everyone is looking to simple or cheap solutions to problems and
this seems to be just that. Windows media encoder is a free download from
Microsoft.

I think it’s a great suggestion, Rick.
Also, Office 2010 Beta is out now and available to the public.
There is a “save as video” option for PPT. Y’all might like
to try it, too. What better way to make sure MS gets the kinks worked out so it
will do what you need once Office actually ships?
Just a caveat: although very solid, this is indeed beta
software. I don’t recommend installing it on your production machines,
even if it’s side-by-side with Office 2007. If you can set up a Virtual
PC or use VMWare, that’s a good way to go. Virtual PC is also a free
download from Microsoft.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have 2010 and 2003 (PowerPoint) - on the
same machine - I am trialling 2010 - but need to use 2003 to work on a client
project - using 2010 is not an option (even if saving down to 2003).
thanks
