Mike Clark "Building Software, Better and Faster" on 05/23   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #208 of 235 |
On Monday, May 23rd, Agile Denver will host Mike Clark, author of the Pragmatic
Bookshelf's "Pragmatic Project Automation". The meeting will still be held at
the Qwest Auditorium in Downtown Denver. Doors open at 6:00pm for networking and
refreshments.

Agile teams are on the hook to deliver high-quality software at predictable
intervals. They don't have a lot of time for trial and error, and they only get
one chance to start right. Foundational project practices such as version
control, unit testing, and automation are crucial to a project's success. These
are things we know we should do, just like eating vegetables and going to the
gym. But it's a rare project team that does all three, and an even rarer one
that does them right.

If you're starting an agile project, already have one, or you just want to know
what it really takes to make a project succeed, then this talk is for you.
You'll learn good practices (and see some bad ones) while we take a peek inside
of a well-oiled agile project that's using the essential practices covered in
the Pragmatic Starter Kit: version control with Subversion, unit testing with
JUnit, and automation with Ant and friends.

Mike Clark will join Dave Thomas and Andy Hunt, the Pragmatic Programmers, this
June 20-21 for their Pragmatic Studio workshop in Denver. They wrote the books
on foundational project practices, and are taking their 70+ years of experience
on the road, showing teams how to get the most from these tools in their
interactive workshops. Visit the website at http://studio.pragprog.com/ for more
information.

AGENDA:

6:00 - 6:25 PM Networking and refreshments
6:25 - 6:35 PM Announcements
6:35 - 7:45 PM Presentation
7:45 - 7:50 PM Door prize giveaways

Curtis. The street address is 1005 17th Street. Take the exterior escalators
facing 17th from street level to Level 1. You can then access the elevators
via doors to the right of the escalator landing. Take an elevator to Level A
for the auditorium. If these doors are locked, go to the main building lobby
which is on Level 1 if you proceed from the escalator landing.

In addition to street parking, there is an outside parking lot on the East
side of the Qwest building that costs a flat $6 after 4pm. Several other
lots are within a few blocks and covered parking can be found in the Tabor
Center for around $4.
