Hi,

My email provider started bouncing emails from yahoo, so I've been
basically offline for a while.

I will be going over the emails that I missed and will try to reply to
them in a speedier fashion.

Does anyone know how to obtain the latest version of the TreePad
plugins that work with the current version on PDesk. The version in
the Yahoo files area date back to 2002 and do not work.

Thanks

I can confirm that renaming a pdk file to pdb (better still make a
copy and rename that) and re-installing it works really well. I can
only assume that the different file size is due to the changes on the
Palm that you are trying to overwrite!

Has anybody got the Icons button to work on a T3?

I've put the DATEBk3 record in 'Memos' but tapping the 'icon' button
in 'Task Properties' doesn't do anything except click.

It used to work on my previous Palms (Tungsten T and IIIx) so I assume
that it's because the new 'Memos' app. has a different DB and CreatorID
from the old 'Memo Pad' app.

Anybody found a work-around? If so could you please share it with me?

That would be very much appreciated, as I for one raised a pertinent
issue and had been disheartened by the lack of response.

The source is on SourceForge.

I released a version from my computer, but it should have identical
code to SourceForge.

I am working on a rewrite of PDesk, and that is not on SourceForge
yet, I just haven't had time to put it up yet.

I will happilly send a tarball to anyone who is interested, or
actually put it up.

It should be available on www.sourceforge.net if you search for PDesk.

Or

You can go to pdesk.sourceforge.net.

My Apologies, I'm not sure why that happened.

I will try again, but in the meantime you can get the source from CVS
on SourceForge.

Ah, that explains the discrepancy in dates then. Thanks, I'll do a
CVS checkout of the current release, if Rick hasn't uploaded a
corrected source zip by the time I get round to it.

When I do a "cvs log" of the pdesk directory, I see the following
version tags:

RCS file: /cvsroot/pdesk/pdesk/CHANGELOG,v
Working file: CHANGELOG
head: 1.2
branch:
locks: strict
access list:
symbolic names:
          PDESK_0_8_5: 1.2
          PDESK_0_8_4: 1.2
          PDesk-Beta-12: 1.2
          PDesk-Beta-11: 1.2
          PDesk_1_Pre2: 1.2
          PDesk-Beta-4: 1.2
          initial: 1.1.1.1
          lb: 1.1.1

I wouldn't go by the web CVS interface; use a CVS client instead.

I am new to Progect and PDesk and like what I am working with.
Thanks, folks! However, I cannot get 0.8.5 from SourceForge. Like
others, the download gives me PKG-INFO and setup.py plus a readme. I
am not a programmer, or even particularly computer literate, so I need
your gentle guidance. I am using XP and Palm TX.

I need to know how I can easily put documents into PDesk without doing
it one line at a a time or having it set up random brothers and
children in the middle of sentences when I import. There must be a
way?

If you are on XP, you should be downloading
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pdesk/PDeskSetup_0_8_5.exe?download
not http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pdesk/PDesk-0.8.5.zip?download.
The zip is for those who need the source or are running on
non-Windows platforms like Linux. The zip is in any case broken as I
previously reported.

Just noticed the stats on Sourceforge. 604 people have downloaded a
useless zip file. That's a lot of disappointed people.

I've just done a cvs checkout of PDesk and made a tarball of it. If
someone can give me the appropriate privs on sourceforge or yahoo,
I'll upload it. My cvs fu is weak and I can't make any assurances
that the tarball corresponds to 0.8.5, but it's got to be better than
the current situation.

I will not respond to individual requests for a copy of the tarball
(with the exception of Rick) as I don't have the time to deal with
them. Just doing this has taken time that I really should have spent
doing something else.

Thanks for the reply. I was pretty sure I had downloaded the

When I ran into this problem a few years ago, the (somewhat unhelpful)
message really meant that some other program running on your system is
already using TCP port 9999.... PDesk tries to reserve that port so the
Progect-conduit can contact PDesk to let it know when there's a hotsync
in progress (so the conduit can access the files) and so PDesk knows
when it can have the files back. If PDesk can't reserve port 9999, it
shows that msg and refuses to run.

I did write to Rick a year or so ago about this and told him a couple of
ways to fix it, but I guess it's still a problem.

You can figure out what program is using port 9999 by getting a freeware
tool called ActivePorts. It shows you what programs on your system are
using what ports. (Click on the "Local ports" column header to sort the
table and then scroll down looking for 9999 in that column.)

ActivePorts can be downloaded from:
    http://www.download.com/3000-2085-10062969.html

Depending on what program is conflicting with PDesk, you may be able to
temporarily shut-down the other program or reconfigure the other program
to use some other port. (When I looked into it, PDesk could not be
configured to use a different port....)

Good luck,
          ... John S.

PS: When I ran into this problem on my system, the program that was
conflicting was a spam filter called K9. If that's your problem, K9 can
be reconfigured to use a differnt port. Just use ActivePorts to pick a
random port number not in use in the range 16000-60000... Just remember
to also reconfigure your email program to match.

Hmm, anybody else having that problem?

If that's the case, then the exe is broken just like the zip.

You are not alone!

There does seem to be a problem here. I had a number of things not
working as they should so uninstalled PDesk downloadled the
0.8.5.exe but it appears to be 0.8.4.

Worse than that, when I create a project now in PDesk and save it
and then try to open it again it gives an error like "File
c:\....\lbPG-ward5b.pdk is not a Progect database."

So I went off to fined the file and its only 1k in size.

So don't know how to get out of this problem now.

I have tried creating a project on my palm and that does open OK in
PDesk but not the other way about.

Graham

Mike,

You did not say what operating system and what synchronization software you
use.

If not Windows, then check out the PDesk/Progect help at
http://pdesk.sourceforge.net

If Windows and PalmDesktop, installing PDesk should set up the
synchronization. There should be a log file wherever you installed
PalmDesktop which should be somewhat helpful.

Yours,

Judd

Hi,

I have a problem syncing progect and todo. When I check an item of in
to do, close an open progect again, the tick is gone. Seems to sync
with ToDo in one direction only ie. ToDo to Progect and not the other
way. Any help.

All,

I have looked at the Microsoft project plug-in and it only seems to
export. Does anybody know how to take a Microsoft project file and
import it into project?

Brenda
