Description

A group interested in building proton magnetometers with an emphasis on measurement of changes in the Earth's magnetic field as caused by solar activity such as solar flares. One of the goals is to observe geomagnetic storms associated with the upcoming 11 year sunspot maximum expected around 2013.

The image is of our FDM PPM front panel display showing the recent G3 magnetic storm of March 9, 2012 as viewed in upstate NY.

The FDM proton precession magnetometer measures the total field, also known as the "F" scalar.
