Hello,

Currently my PeopleSoft signon page is displaying error message. I
am not understanding the reason for that I could able to

connect using the DataMover (2-tier) and Application Designer (3-
tier). But while typing URL

(http://serverIP/psp/Domain/?cmd=login) and running in browser it's
giving the following error message:

Your URL must contain domain ".ps.peoplesoft.com"

Click Sign in to PeopleSoft to try again.

If the error persists, please contact your System Administrator for
assistance.

So, I started my WL from command mode. In the command line interface
it's displaying:

<Thread "ListenThread.Default" listening on port 80, ip address *.*>
SchedulerTransfer, authentication failed
SchedulerTransfer, authentication failed
SchedulerTransfer, authentication failed
SchedulerTransfer, authentication failed

What are these last 4 lines refer to?

Any suggestions please...

Has anyone come across this before? This is very intermittent and as
far as I can determine only happens in one database. The user clicks
on the Save and Submit button (so far when creating a new job or trying
to hire someone) and gets an ORA-00030: User session ID does not exist
error. Then gets ORA-00022:invalid session ID; access denied then gets
a long peoplecode error. I can see how the other two errors would occur
if the session id was dropped.

I don't have any errors in the database alert log. The ORA-
00022:invalid session ID shows up on the appserver sql trace.

Sounds like the web server is trying to reuse a connection that no
longer exists. Did the database get bounced without bouncing the web
server. Or perhaps is their a profile set up in Oracle to disconnect
idle sessions? Maybe a session got disconnected without the web server
knowing about it.

I agree. The overwhelming majority of PT8.4x users use BEA weblogic (in the
early days of PT8.1x there was a preference for Apache). I have only been
on one Websphere site, and I have lost count of the number of Weblogic
sites.

From the little that I have seen of Websphere, I am not impressed. If you
use the IBM HTTP server, then there appears to be no access logging!

However, I think the trend was established largely a matter of history!
Originally, PT8.1 was certified with Apache 1.3 and Weblogic. PT8.4 was
certified with Weblogic and Websphere. A lot of customers who took 8.1 when
8.4 was on the horizon decided to go Weblogic because they wouldn't have to
change servers when they upgraded.

I sometimes think that the only reason that PeopleSoft even considered
Websphere was that they were busy schmoozing up to IBM, and so they liked to
suggest that IBM websphere was a good thing.

Of course now there are other options. Tomcat is certfied, and from PT8.47
so is Oracle Application Server (sorry - that should now be referred to as
Oracle Fusion Middleware).

What leads you to suspect that the number of JVM threads has any bearing on performance?
Are you getting any related error messages?

>  Is it the performance will increase or decrease of the overall system?
The flippant answer to question is: maybe - bumaybe not because it might stay the same!
If you change parameters randomly you are likely to get random results!

A well known author once wrote 'Performance tuning is a search for lost time'.

You should be looking for the amount of time spent doing a transaction, and as far a possible break it down so that you can quantify how much time was spent in which tier or opperation within that transaction.  Then start to attack the thing that took the most time.  If you know exactly what took the most time, then you will have a better idea of what might be causing the poor performance, and possibly more importantly what is not contributing to your problem.  Then you will know whether to leave it alone.

If you think JVM has performance bottleneck, I would look at the gc (Garbage Control) interval. If this is set to kick off too frequently, it will hog the system.

You can findout how frequently gc is being kicked off by analysing JVM trace.

Subject: PeopleSoft DBA Forum Threads and Thread Tasks

Hi,
I am working on Performance and Tuning.

Presently my system having MAXTHRADTASKS(3000)

and MAXTHREADS(5000)

If i increase no. Of tasks like 5000 and MaxThreads like 10000.

Is it the performance will increase or decrease of the overall system?

Thanks,

(Sorry for delay in response - I've been away for the last week.)

Hi,

We had the same issue and scratched our heads for a while, until we finally discovered that when AppDesigner is used, our logs dont get generated. So make sure everybody is out of AppDesigner and then see if the logs are generated.

The only constraints PeopleSoft uses in Oracle are unique indexes – all relational constraints are handled in PeopleTools.  Therefore, it looks like you may have an issue with your data, although if you posted your error messages it might get a more useful response.  I am wondering what you are exporting, the objects belonging to the PeopleSoft Schema or the entire database?  In order to replicate a PeopleSoft instance just export the PeopleSoft schema, import into a new database where you have created the tablespaces, users, etc as per the original installation, then change PSDBOWNER to match your new database name.

There are no referential integrity constraints in a PeopleSoft database, so you could just export/import the sysadm schema.

However, it is probably easier and faster to clone the database by copying the database files and recreating the controlfile.  If you want to produce a copy of production for performance testing this is the preferred option.

… and while import export is ok, it’s so much quicker to copy the database files for a new instance and edit the control files to match the new file locations.  Produce the control file by backing up to trace from your current database.  This method is covered in several posts in MetaLink, it cuts the time required for a PeopleSoft replication from hours down to minutes.

I have used this technique many times myself.

I have based my script on Metalink note 18070.1

Don’t forget to change the PSDBOWNER.DBNAME to ‘new_database’.

Dear All,

I am trying to create a demo database in oracle 9i but not able to login into the Application Designer.

I have manually created the HCM 8.8 database and run all the data mover scripts that exist in “scripts\nt” folder (as per the installation guide.). I also run the connect.sql to grant the necessary access to people connect id. I have also granted PSADMIN role to PS in order to connect to the database successfully.

I can logon into the data mover in bootstrap mode but not able to login into the Application Designer using PS userid. I am sure that I have run all the scripts but don't know why I am not able to login into the Application Designer. Prior experiment with the MSSQL server 2000 is all successful but the problem is only with the Oracle 9i.

When I run the Application Designer trace I came to know that system is looking for PS.PSSTATUS instead of SYSTEM.PSSTATUS because PSSTATUS table exists in the SYSTEM tablespace not PS tablespace. I am out of choice now.

Can anybody help me in this issue and let me know how I can login into the Application Designer.

Thanks,

Manoj

Quite a lot of potential mistakes here, not sure where to start…

You’ve obviously run at least some of the scripts as SYSTEM or alternatively run the scripts without having first created the PeopleSoft Tablespaces (hrddl.sql=.  PSSTATUS should be owned by the PeopleSoft owner you used in psadmin.sql – usually SYSADM.  Did you create the PeopleSoft connect user, usually PEOPLE?  The grant.sql script grants this user read access to SYSADM.PSSTATUS.  You also seem to be confusing schemas / users with tablespaces?  Have you imported the PeopleSoft database using datamover – you won’t be able to login in as PS until you have a database to login in to.

If I were you I’d start with the install manual and follow it step by step.

Thanks Robert,

Let me rephrase what I did before starting the data mover script.

Step-1) I have created a service called HR88DEMO using the oradim utility (I want to create the database manually not through the DBCA). Create an initHR88DEMO.ora file and set all the parameters i.e CONTROL_FILES, UNDO_TABLEPSPACE, Block size and SGA, PGA memory parameters. Place this file into the ORACLE_HOME\database folder. Start the HR88DEMO service using the oradim utility.

Step-2) Open the command prompt and issued the following commands:

set oracle_sid=HR88DEMO
connect / as sysdba
startup database nomount pfile=ORACLE_HOME\database\initHR88DEMO.ora
create database HR88DEMO......

Step-3) After that I run the utlspace.sql -> ptddl.sql ->hcddl.sql -> rollback.sql (though I am using the UNDO tablespace but still I run this sql) -> create user PS ->
psadmin.sql -> psdbowner.sql -> connect.sql. I run this script as per installation guide instruction except createdb.sql. I create everything using SYSTEM as sysdba or without sysdba (where sysdba is not written).

Step-4) I create a database setup script and using the following settings.

Database:           HR88DEMO
Access ID:          SYSADMA
Symbolic ID:       PS  (in another database i.e i am running two installation simultanously i used the SYSADMA)
Symbolic PWD:  PS  (in another database i.e i am running two installation simultanously i used the SYSADMA)
Connect ID:        people

After running the data mover script, I am not able to login into the Application Designer.  You are right that I am confusing but only for schema not for the tablespace and user. I know what is user and tablespace but don't know what's meaning of schema and where it's used in PeopleSoft terminology. I also did installation in SQL Server and it's successful but with oracle this is second time and again it’s in failure stage... :-)

Let me know if you have any further suggestions.

Thanks,

Manoj

Try starting again but using an appropriate symbolic ID – PS is first a database user created to own one table – PSDBOWNER and second the application SuperUser.  It should not be used as a symbolic ID.  Try using SYSADMA1 instead.

I know what is user and tablespace but don't know what's meaning of schema and where it's used in PeopleSoft terminology. I also did installation in SQL Server and it's successful but with oracle this is second time and again it’s in failure stage... :-)

Let me know if you have any further suggestions.

Thanks,

Manoj

Subject: PeopleSoft DBA Forum Unable to login into the Application Designer.

Thanks,

Manoj

Don’t do that, this table should be owned by SYSADMA so create it in that schema instead.

Can you post the contents of the following tables then you’ll get better advice:

PSDBOWNER

PSSTATUS

PSACCESSPRFL

PSOPRDEFN (just for OPRID=’PS’)

startup database nomount pfile=ORACLE_HOME\database\initHR88DEMO.ora
create database HR88DEMO......

Thanks,

Manoj

Subject: PeopleSoft DBA Forum Unable to login into the Application Designer.

Thanks,

Manoj

This is an excellent place to ask this question (see below).
So I have created a Poll on the forum which will run for 2 weeks.

I asked the same question back in 2003 when we had recently created this
forum and everyone used PT8.1x.
A very small sample produced the result: 75% weblogic, 25% apache.
I am intrigued to see what the answer is today!

It should be HR88DEMO   SYSADMA

Update it and I’ll think you’ll be able to progress.

Yes, I have run the grant.sql and also manually run all the three sql to ensure that it does not show give any error.

Don't know why it's looking for PS.PSSTATUS. Can you tell me why it's looking for PS.PSSTAUS. If I manually copy this table with data from SYSTEM user to PS user then will other user also able to login into the database i.e Can I able to boot my application server with PSADMIN?

Thanks,

Manoj

Thanks Roberto,

Please let me know what's schema and what's PSOFT schema. I read the connect.sql and it say

Oracle DBA is required to run this script logged in as the PSOFT
-- Schema Owner(ie ACCESSID).

When I executed the data mover script does it also create a user SYSADMA automatically. Can I login into SYSADM userid?

If I grant the "select on" permission using the "SYSTEM as sysdba" will it not work?

PSDBOWNER is in PS so it's PS.PSDBOWNER. Contents are as under:

HR88DEMO  PS

PSSTATUS, PSACCESSPRFL and PSOPRDEFN is in SYSTEM so it's SYSTEM.PSSTATUS, SYSTEM.PSACCESSPRFL and SYSTEM.PSOPRDEFN

I will send you the contents of these table shortly.

Thanks,

Manoj

Robert Ellis <robert.ellis@...> wrote:
Don’t do that, this table should be owned by SYSADMA so create it in that schema instead.

Can you post the contents of the following tables then you’ll get better advice:

PSDBOWNER
PSSTATUS
PSACCESSPRFL
PSOPRDEFN (just for OPRID=’PS’)
