First check http://localhost:8080 , What do you see? You should be able to see the Tomcat start page if the server started properly.

If http://localhost:8080 gives you a 404 error as well then either you haven't started the server (go to tomcats bin and double click the run batch file). Alternatively, go to the Tomcat bin directory through the command line and type "run" (I'm not very sure about this, I work on jBoss but it should be the same!)

If http://localhost:8080 displays the Tomcat start page then it may mean that the application wasn't deployed properly. Have you placed the sample application in the webapps directory?

Need not panic. Lots of helpful people in this mailing list. Someone or the other would definitely help you.

Hi All,

I recently installed Ecplise and Tomcat. And created a simple html page. Also tried this on a sample html app downloaded from internet.

Each time I run I get this error:

HTTP Status 404 -

type Status report
message
description The requested resource () is not available.

Apache Tomcat/6.0.18

URL that I gave is:
http://localhost:8080/intro/Hello.html

Any help is appreciated. I checked the port in server.xml and it looks OK as 8080. Am I missing any settings, or anything.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks
-gautam
