I don't mean to be rude; and I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from so I have to ask-
  • why did you consider asking this question on a java mailing list?
  • is there a set of users who you know frequent this list that you're targeting?
  • did you feel that this community would provide you any specific outlook/perspective on this issue?
  • or are you just cross-posting?

Dear all,

Apologies for a slightly off-topic post.

I am looking to get a CMS built using PHP / MySQL that can do the following:

1. All standard CMS functionality - ability to create pages, layouts, articles, menus and assigning articles to pages
2. User role based authorisation - Admin, Editor, Author and User
3. Ability to change look and feel using Template
4. User registration
5. SEO
6. A good administration
etc.

In addition, the CMS should also support the following custom functionality:

1. Collect user demographic information when user registers (age, gender, income, interest in various topics (it should be possible to target articles to users based on their demographic and choice at the time of registration))
2. Ability to publish content online or via email or any other channel by having checkboxes at the time of creation of content
3. Ability to sell stuff or collect donations
4. Ability to add forms and engage users in simple 2-3 page workflows
5. UTF8 database (to support multiple languages)
6. Ability to block users from downloading content without permission

I cannot use WordPress / Drupal / Joomla. I need a custom development.

If you are able to deliver such a product, please email me at ashish@... with your quote, time required and terms. I also need to see examples of your work.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Ashish.

Hi Ganesh,

If that was true, no one would be developing any new software as most business functionality already exists somewhere or the other. For example, SAP already has Sales, Distribution, Material Management, Production Planning, Financial Accounting, Controlling, etc. Yet you will find people developing these.

The reason I am looking for a new CMS is because based on my experience, nothing out there covers everything my client is looking for. Rather than bend my client's business around an existing software, I would like to get a software designed to suit their business model. Also, my own team is working to its capacity. Hence, I am looking to outsource this work.

I hope that I have not caused any offense and have responded to your query.

Best Regards,

Ashish.

Hello Ashish,
My question is why you need a custom development for this functionality which already supported by some of Content management system (Open source Community edition Alfresco). If you use Alfresco all the functionality you are looking for is already there beside it is best open Source Enterprise Content Management  system. You can customize your need on top of that why to reinvent the wheel.

I am just asking you since I am working on Alfresco and we are using all the functionality you are asking for with few of customization. I apologize if i am diverting your goals.

The Java Native Interface (JNI) enables the integration of code written in the Java programming language with code written in other languages such as C and C++. It allows programmers to take full advantage of the Java platform without having to abandon their investment in legacy code.

This book is the definitive resource and a comprehensive guide to working with the JNI. Entirely up-to-date, the book offers a tutorial, a detailed description of JNI features and programming techniques, JNI design justifications, and the official specification for all JNI types and functions.

You will find coverage of important topics such as:

  • Writing native methods
  • Passing data types between the Java language and native programming languages
  • Embedding a Java virtual machine implementation in native applications
  • Leveraging legacy native libraries
  • Improving the efficiency and reliability of your code
An entire chapter is devoted to avoiding common traps and pitfalls. The book uses numerous examples to illustrate programming techniques that have proven to be effective.

Forwarded from the Bangalore lists
=========================

We're happy to announce the third edition of DevCamp Bangalore -
DevCamp Bangalore 3 (http://bangalore.devcamp.in) on Saturday, 4th
September 2010.

The event will be sponsored & hosted by ThoughtWorks
(www.thoughtworks.com) at our office in Diamond District, Bangalore.
(view map: http://is.gd/ejWkd )

Like any BarCamp, registration is on the wiki and there is no registration fee.

DevCamp is an un-conference by the hackers*, for the hackers and of
the hackers. It's a species of BarCamp where anything a lover of
computers and technology would consider important or entertaining
goes. The first DevCamp took place a little over two years ago, and
we've always had a lot of fun being a part of this event; we're hoping
to keep that trend going with DCB3.

If you're planning to do a session at DCB3, do keep in mind the fact
that everyone at DevCamp is a hacker, a pro. Please assume a high
level of exposure and knowledge on the part of your audience, and
tailor your sessions accordingly. Avoid 'Hello World' and how-to
sessions which can be easily found on the net. First hand war stories,
in-depth analyses of topics, and live demos are best.

The Developer Community meets in Pune

DevCamp Pune
Saturday, October 16, 2010
After organising DevCamp in Chennai and Bangalore, we are happy to host DevCamp Pune on October 16th, 2010, at the ThoughtWorks Pune office premises.

What's DevCamp?
DevCamp is a BarCamp style 'unconference' for the Software Development Community, with code and hacking as its main themes. A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.

This one-day community meet provides participating developers with a platform to voice their opinion on the latest technologies. Developers, architects, CTOs and independent consultants from across the country will come together to participate in this high-intensity conference.

After the success of last year's event, we're happy to announce the first DevCamp in Pune for this year (http://devcamp.in/index.php/Pune/2011/1) on Saturday, 9th April 2011. Registrations are now open to all (http://devcamp.in/index.php/Pune/2011/1/Registrations).

Like any BarCamp, registration is on the wiki and there is no registration fee whatsoever. The event will be sponsored & hosted by ThoughtWorks (www.thoughtworks.com) at their office in Yerawada, Pune. (view map: http://is.gd/twpune)

You can now follow updates about this and future DevCamp Pune by subscribing to our new forum (https://groups.google.com/group/devcamp-pune). To avoid spamming other lists, regular updates will be posted to the DevCamp list while occasional announcements may be cross posted to this list. Also, if you'd like to help organize the event, drop us a post on our Volunteer Signup thread (https://groups.google.com/d/topic/devcamp-pune/ALpKSOxS9Fw/discussion).

This event has also been put up on Lanyrd (http://lanyrd.com/2011/devcamp-pune/), so after you're registered on the wiki and proposed a session, feel free to update our Lanyrd page too!

DevCamp is an un-conference by the hackers, for the hackers and of the hackers. It's a species of BarCamp where anything a lover of computers and technology would consider important or entertaining goes. The first DevCamp took place a little over three years ago, and we've always had a lot of fun being a part of this event; we're hoping to keep that trend going.

If you're planning to do a session at this years event, do keep in mind the fact that everyone at DevCamp is a hacker, a pro. Please assume a high level of exposure and knowledge on the part of your audience, and tailor your sessions accordingly. Avoid 'Hello World' and how-to sessions which can be easily found on the net. First hand war stories, in-depth analyses of topics, and live demos are best.

Please forward this email to any individuals or lists that you think may be interested.

Feel free to get back to the DevCamp Pune team with any queries/concerns you may have

Subject: [OT][ANN][X-POST] RubyConf India 2011 update
meet_simon
Send Email Send Email

For those of you following RubyConf India, the team in Bangalore has made quite a few developments in the last few weeks and a lot of the programme has been finalized. The team has managed to secure some of Matz's time yet again and he will be addressing the Rubyists over video! Besides keynotes by Yehuda Katz, Ola Bini, Nick Sieger & Chad Fowler, the speaker list also includes Sidu Ponnappa from C42 and Brian Guthrie from ThoughtWorks (whose talk on clean ruby code was a smashing hit at last years event). Check out the Talks page for details. Also, register your attendance at RubyConf India's Lanyrd page to let the world know where you'll be.

The team is also hard at work trying to secure pragmatically priced accommodation for people coming in from other cities, with special attention to the ladies. In keeping with Roy Singham's comments last year on leveling the gender gap in the community, Platinum sponsors ThoughtWorks are going out on a limb and sponsoring accommodation for the night of the 28th to women having trouble finding any. Said fair Rubyistas can contact the wonderfully helpful Judy Das at judy@... to work out the arrangements. For the more adventurous, there's a couch surfing wiki set up at http://rubyconfindia.org/wiki/index.php/2011/Couch_Surfing (courtesy Tejas Dinkar). So get out those boards and start waxing! ;)

Before I close, I'd like to extend some serious gratz to the RubyConf India team for lining up an awesome event for the second year in a row; with considerable measure going to our Platinum sponsors ThoughtWorks. Kudos, fine sirs and madams!

BTW, based on my discussions with the organizing team, RubyConf India is on the lookout for cities to host future events. With a little lobbying and some serious support from local Ruby user groups, we could capture that flag just like we did with PyCon this year! Feel free to ping me at saager.mhatre@... if you need any help getting in touch with the team.

Read on for details in the original update.

==== original update from habibpagarkar@... follows ====

Hear ye, hear ye.

I bring thee (a lot of) RubyConf tidings!

The team has been hard at work and I am happy to share the following updates with you:

A) Talks

First off, thank you to those who took the time and effort to submit proposals. Our panelists, Chad Fowler and Ola Bini, were kept busy choosing 18 talks from the 70+ proposals - a time consuming task that they handled with care and thoroughness.

16 talks have been confirmed. In alphabetical order they are:
  • Bhavin Javia - Software Quality and Test Strategies for Ruby and Rails Applications
  • Brian Guthrie - Ruby Plus Rails Plus Your Application Minus Rails
  • Chirantan Mitra & Habibullah Pagarkar - Anti-Patterns and Patterns in Rails
  • Janmejay Singh & Pavan K Sudarshan - Test Load Balancer: rocket booster for your build
  • Karthik Sirasanagandla - Deciphering The Ruby Object Model
  • Mark Madsen - MacRuby
  • Munjal Budhabhatti - How Ruby helps Rackspace challenge Amazon
  • Nick Sieger - Refactoring a Legacy Java Application to Rails
  • Nicolás Sanguinetti - Let's have a cup of CoffeeScript
  • Niranjan Paranjape & Aakash Dharmadhikari - But the language supports it
  • Prateek Mohan Dayal - Single page Web apps with Backbone.js and Ruby on Rails
  • Sherin C - Designing High Throughput Web Service Clients
  • Sidu Ponnappa & Niranjan Paranjape - I can haz HTTP: Consuming and producing HTTP APIs in the Ruby ecosystem
  • Srushti Ambekallu & Brian Guthrie - Continuous Delivery in Ruby
  • Vishnu Gopal - Writing Compilers the Easy Way
  • Yashasree Barve - Rubyizing the Dev and Ops in an Enterprise

You'll find more information at:
http://rubyconfindia.org/2011/speakers.html

By now everyone who submitted a proposal should have received an email regarding the status of your talk. If you haven't, please get in touch with me off the list.

We have a few talks competing for the last 2 slots. They'll be intimated early next week. I'll send out a final talks list then. Meanwhile, please keep checking the website:
www.rubyconfindia.org/2011

B) Matz

Matz can't make it. BUT he has agreed to address us :)

C) Tickets

We are very close to hitting the limit. There won't be any more space at the venue, so even if we want to, we can't increase the number of attendees. What are you waiting for? Register!

D) Travel and Accommodation

Last year's inaugural RubyConf was a ground breaking event. We helped present our small, but rapidly growing Ruby community to the world.

This year we aim to promote cooperation among Indian Rubyists so that we can stand on the shoulders of giants and look ahead.

There are a lot of us not from Bangalore who by virtue of attending RubyConf will enrich us with their passion, ideas and opinions. Unfortunately, many don't know anybody from Bangalore. Staying at hotels around the venue might be out of the question for some.

I'm not from Bangalore, but in the last 2.5 years in the Garden City, I've witnessed a lot of incidents of warm hospitality. So Bangalore Rubyists, let us take the lead to foster a community spirit. Let us get together and welcome fellow Ruby enthusiasts from across India.

If you have a spare room/couch/any sort of accommodation available on the night of May 28th (or 29th) and wouldn't mind being a welcoming host, please head onto the link below and update the wiki* with your contact details.

http://rubyconfindia.org/wiki/index.php/2011/Couch_Surfing

What do you get out of it? You get to meet interesting people who share your passions and interests. You'll also do your bit to build up the community.

From my estimates, we don't need a lot of people to volunteer, but every little bit of assistance helps.

For those who aren't very keen on crashing on somebody's couch, we are working to get reasonably priced accommodation. I'll send an email about that soon.

I understand that females may not be comfortable with this arrangement. Fair enough. We as a community should be encouraging the involvement of Indian women in IT. That's what Roy said at the last RubyConf to thunderous applause. We have taken a step in that direction.

If:

1) You are a female living outside Bangalore and
2) You want to attend RubyConf India 2011 and
3) You genuinely don't have a place to stay for the duration of the conference

Then:

ThoughtWorks India will sponsor your accommodation for the night of May 28th at a safe, convenient and comfortable location near the venue. Obviously conditions apply, so please contact Judy Das directly (not on the mailing list) at judy@... and she'll answer your queries. You will still need to purchase a conference ticket and make travel arrangements on your own.

I'm sure you have a lot of questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly at habibpagarkar@.... Remember, not everybody may be interested in your queries. So send a reply to the entire group only if it is warranted.

We've come this far and we are getting closer to the home stretch. Please keep supporting us :)

Thanks!

On behalf of the RubyConf India volunteers,

Habib

* Tejas Dinkar created the wiki. Thanks dude!

Forwarded from Pune Java User Group.

============================================================================

Dear Java Pune members,

Java 7 is major update to Java and will be released (GA) on July 28th, 2011. A detailed list of features & a developer preview is available online.

Wouldn't it be great if even before the general availability of Java 7 there was an event in Pune where we could learn & discuss exactly what's new & exciting about Java 7?

Oracle had this initiative where local Java groups could host Java 7 launch events supported by Oracle. I thought such an event would be a great opportunity to learn, network & energize the Java Pune community and so had applied for a Pune event.

I am pleased to inform that my request was approved by Oracle and Java guru Chuk-Munn Lee would be traveling to Pune to present at our Java 7 launch event.

Symbiosis (SICSR) was kind to provide the venue for the event.

Java 7 is coming to Pune on 16th July 2011, 4-6 pm at SICSR
Do have a look at http://j.mp/Java7Pune or

  • We need to build a team of volunteers to be able to promote & then smoothly execute a large community event of this nature. If you would like to volunteer, please use the Volunteer ticket option on the page.
  • Please do share your thoughts & suggestions on making this event a success

Thanks,
Harshad
