No, I wouldn't use Vista if they paid me! It's Windows 98 and yes Puppy and Windows do coincide until Windows locks up, which it is prone to do, and the MBR is corrupted - the main reason for going to Linux!
 
So far as installing other Linux software not created for Puppy I just don't know enough about Linux to deal with .tar files, I've tried but never works for me.

I have been running Puppy from the hard drive with "GRUB" installed on the MBR, but every time Windows locks up it corrupts the MBR and then I have to reset it...
