Hello,
To solve your paramecium / other speed issue: you can make the medium more
viscous with Carboxy methyl cellulose.
You will find hydras on plants or various debris at the bottom of the pond.
Try moss also

Subject: [QX3] Re:Focus Problem
I have not had that problem with my QX5.
When working with covered petri dishes (they're covered and sealed due to
the
bacteria growing), I really wish that I could remove the shroud because I
can't get close enough. It would be nice if it were removable or could be
shortened significantly.
My only real issue is difficulty getting focus at 200x. The depth of field
(I think that's the right term) is so shallow that when the top of an object
is in focus, the middle and bottom aren't. (For example, a shimp egg, which
is about 0.3 mm or so across.) At 10x and 60x, it all works great.
I'm also disappointed that I can't turn on the top and bottom lights at the
same time. There's situations where I think it would look better if I could.
I got a few paramecium briefly, but they were hard to follow at 60x -- they
could travel about a full body length every second, which surprised me.
Any suggestions about finding a hydra? My son and I would really like to see
one, but stagnant water only turned up some paramecium.
