I have found the lights on the QX3 to be too dim to illuminate the stuff
I want images of.
You can fiddle around with several types of lamps.
Mostly I use a small halogen lamp, like in this picture:

I have to move the lap around until the light reflects off the surface
and into the lens, but this works pretty quickly after a little experience.
