Programming on version 3 continues. The following new features have
been added or in the process since the last update:
1. Lightning Risk - The feature displays the lightning risk area around
storms and when you are in the area.
2. Hail Probability - Shows a map displaying where hail may be falling.
3. Looping - Better file and error handling on loop files.
4. Storm Watch - Ready to warn you in event of foul weather.
5. Refresh - Improved. Refresh time will occur at the same rate as the
weather service updates their images.
Currently the main focus of the programming is on the Storm Watch
Feature.
Stephen
Stephen; I have finally find the time to figure out that it was easy! At least for my desk top. But on most pages, other then the full US map, I cannot them to move or loop. How can I get this done? I also am not sure what if anything I can do to get your program on my iphone. Mike Barazone 619-889-5709

I think you may be confused with the yahoo group passwords. There are no passwords needed for the radar toolkit or my website. Go to www.astroscan. net and click on the link that says "Home of the Radar Toolkit" and you'll see the download links for the program.

Due to some changes in life (moving to a new house) and a new position
at work, progress on version 3 had to be put on hold for a few weeks.
Work has resumed on the new version. Most of the sections are
complete, with the last remaining area being the astronomy tab. Most of
that has also been completed. The last remaining section is the
observing forecast. This forecast will be a valuable tool to star
gazers. We will keep you posted as we draw closer to releasing an
alpha version.

Robert,
Thank you for the words of encouragement. Many tedious hours go into a
program like this, and encouragement goes a long way to helping an
author continue to improve the work. I'm sorry to hear about your home
and hope you have a speedy recovery.
Mike,
I don't think it'll work on an iphone. I have no way of trying,
however, so if someone does get it to work, please let us know.

----- Original Message ---- From: Stephen Meeks <sameeks@...> To: radar_toolkit@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, July 25, 2008 12:30:29 PM Subject: Re: [radar_toolkit] Posting as Flash on my Site
Programming continues on version 3.1.
We are excited about the new tools we'll be offering in this version,
which include:
Precipitation Coverage Area - Know how many square miles is covered by rain.
Short Term Coverage Trend - Is the area of precipitation growing or
shrinking.
Range - How far is the rain and heavy weather from you.
Analyze - By moving your mouse over the radar image get intensity,
motion, height, and more.
Merge - Merge the local radar with up to five of the closest radar sites
to help get a clearer picture, especially on the fringe.
Other features include:
Move to neighboring sites by simply clicking on the local radar map.
The program will take you to the closest site to that point.
More robust radar image looping, with an added control for a .02 to 2
second delay between loops.
Programming enhancement to make the program more efficient with better
error controls.
Even more enhancements are in work as we continue to improve the Weather
Radar Toolkit.
Mike,
Thanks for your feedback. I've had several people look at the program
and thousands have downloaded it, but your the first that has caught or
brought that misspelling to me. That was a pretty easy fix. The
second feature is one I've had in the back of my mind for sometime now
as a 'nicity to add', but in an effort to focus on features it has
stayed on the back burner. I have added it to the 'to do' list and
will try to add at least a basic version of that as it is pretty
straight forward programming wise.
Thanks again,
Stephen

Recently discovered your program and really like it. I have a few
suggestions for the new version.
1.)On the weather tab the precipitation option is misspelled
(percipitation),hey, it happens.
2.)On the local radar tab when you deselect the topography I find the
image of the clouds a little disorienting, personally I like a black
background.
or
3.)Allow the user to set any image that they would like as the
background.
Really looking forward to the new version.
Good Luck!

Work has now begun on version 3 of the Radar Toolkit. In this new
version we will be adding an astronomy tab, expanding the graphical
weather forecast, and finally true to its' name, there will be tools of
analyzing radar data.
Stay tuned as work continues on this exciting new version!

AstroScan Media is pleased to announce the release of the Weather Radar
Toolkit, v2.1.
This new version has new features and is more robust than the original
version.
We hope you enjoy this new version and covet any feedback or post of
issues you may run into.
Stephen Meeks
Program documentation has been completed.
New Feature Added - Astronomical Calendar
The calendar gives you a quick list of astronomical and space flight
happenings for the upcoming week.
Programing Update
A change has been made to the way auto-updating of images occurs. When
going from one scene to another the program looks for and downloads any
available updates. On dial-up this can become problematic. A feature
was included to turn those updates off. However this unnecessarily
complicated the program. Now when the update is turned off the computer
will only try to update images that are more than an hour old.
Release Date
Due to the intervention of life and necessary changes to make the
program more robust and stable the release has been pushed back more
than month from the mid-October beta release date. With the
documentation complete and all of the known bugs worked out, compilation
in preparation for a beta test release should finally happen by early
next week.
Update Oct. 16
Release of the program has been delayed due to a continuing issue with
updating images. When a new radar image becomes available the old image
would be erased and replaced. However, Windows can lag in releasing
the older file and thus its' deletion and replacement with a newer
file. This caused a nagging problem which could delay the update or
freeze the program. Different patches proved fruitless, so a new
solution was created which called for a rewrite in several sections of
programming. This has delayed the release, but provides for a better
end product. The re-write is nearing completion. We are now targeting
an early Nov. release.
V2.0.0.8 is the latest release version of the Weather Radar Toolkit.
The next version is nearing completion, however. The new version will
feature radar looping, zooming, and panning. A new tab has been added
that provides graphical forecasts and moon phase information. Plus, the
default scene and radar site can now be set. There are two further
chores that need to be finished and then the documentation created. I'm
anticipating a release date in mid to late October.

Programming of the Local Radar image loops and zooming is complete and
undergoing testing. Features will include:
Local Loops:
Loop from 3 to the number of back images that are available on the NWS
servers. Usually in the 40-60 range.
Pause and step through the images.
Control the speed of the images.
Regional and National Radar Looping is completed and alpha testing
finalized.
Zoom:
Zoom into local radar sites up to 3x.
Click a spot on the main window to center.
A small zoom control window shows an overview of the large window.
Saving default locations, top menu bar, and splash screens are the next
items up.
Welcome to The Weather Radar Toolkit discussion group. Here we'll keep
you updated on upcoming program updates and support. We also covet
your feedback, likes, dislikes and features you'd like to see.
Clear Skies,
