Hi.
I'm new to digging into the dev side of Radio, Frontier and Manila. The
distinctions between them is still confusing me so I may be posting questions
unrelated to Radio.
What I'd like to do is integrate Blogmapper.com's functionality into a web-based
content management environment. Blogmapper associates blog content with
hotspots on a Flash-based map.
Why would I want to do this? Well a weblog editing mode of operation is simple,
familiar for lots of people, and has immediate feedback. Annotating maps is fun
and useful. Combining the two into a single UI seems natural.
Here's the high-level wants:
1. Manila start page. The navigation links at the top of the web accessible
page will need to include a link to a map editing mode.
2. Complete UI integration. Clicking on this map editing link would take you
to a page (again web accessible) that contained Manila's standard text editer
and an embedded Flash map.
3. Associating location. Clicking on the map will associate a location with
what the user is about to write in the text box - writing to some central
content database. There will be a way to select which map (global, city,
detail...) is used, a way to select which post is edited, and a way to manually
enter GPS locations.
4. Managing map content. I want to select which map content I've created and
be able to publish to an XML format (RDFMap) at a specific location. We've been
supporting and promoting the use of location annotated RSS. However, the nature
of this format is transitory. RSS data is usually fresh and contains the last X
posts. Maps need static data.
Questions:
-Is this possible in Radio, Frontier, or Manila?
-Is there a better list I could be posting too?
-Am I not understanding what a CMS should do? I want to build off something
that has a user base, simple interactions, and is web based.
-Could this all be embedded in a Tool? I've read a little bit about Tools and
they seem powerful and shareable.
-I looked at Conversant. Anyone willing to share experience building off of
this?
Thanks for any feedback.
