Hi folks,
Just a word to the wise. Radio8 will not work in most school
environments.
The application itself is too tightly bound to its application and
data files.
It's fundamentally impossible to install ONE copy of Radio on a
computer and share it amongst many different students. Radio's got
just way too many references to it's application data files to make
this possible.
You would have to install one copy for EACH student. Presumably on a
networked filesystem. This can be tricky as not everyone's got a
fileserver nor is it properly configured.
This flies in the face of convention as almost all modern programs
understand how to work in a shared/networked environment. Radio does
not seem to appreciate this situation.
I've designed, installed and administered school networks for over 15
years. I know what I'm talking about.
Could Radio be made to do it? Not without the cooperation on the
part of UserLand. Their network update scheme doesn't allow for
local edits of key code. Their updates just overwrite anything done
locally.
So unless UserLand takes a serious crack at reforming the code, you
cannot use Radio8 in a lab environment.
