Yes, you have accurately described the conceptual difference between posts and stories. You can, however, give a post a quasi-timeless character by including a link to that post's permalink in your navigator links, i.e. in the #navigatorLinks.xml file, so there will always be a link to that post on your home page or category home pages even after 7 days elapse.
