Dear All:
In surveying the microformats/microcontent scene, I've become
convinced we need a hacks site. The hacks site would collect hacks
for manipulating and getting value out of microcontent. There are a
lot of ideas out there for how to do this.
They all seem potentially valid to me. At the very least, if someone
has an idea that they take the trouble to implement, it seems worth
publicizing the code and strategy in a non-judgmental way to see the
extent to which it works for the world at large.
I've registered the two sites mentioned as well as some simple
derivatives. I'm looking for feedback on the following ideas.
My thought is to turn the domains into reblog sites (per the http://
reblog.org Mike Migurski and Mike Frumin sense). I think it would
work like this:
1. The editorial policy is simply to insist that posts contain links
to code that works with some kind of microcontent (Mike Migurski's
Vox Delicii would qualify I think) with an explanation of how it works.
2. Licensing would require some sort of open license, perhaps one
endorsed by the OSF.
3. To submit a hack, you would send me your feed URL with the
specific post you want reblogged.
4. I and others would occasionally blog on the site directly.
5. Community features like tagging and rating would be interesting
to add. Does anybody have suggestions for how to proceed with this?
I am really looking for ideas here.
Bud
