I have been a member here for a while and placed a battery order a few months
back.
I have 2 x 24vdc 15Ah NiMH Batteries which can be seen here:
http://timgulden.fotopic.net/p7585783.html
I also have 2 chargers (86 - 260vac) that are made for these batteries and
include a thermistor for monitoring the battery temperature during charging.
If interested, please email me off list.

Hi,
I wanna buy a 36V 8ah NIMH pack + charger, but I'm afraid to have the same
Voltage sag issue than with my 36V 7,5ah gel SLA.
I've thrown this on different groups and forums, some people say I will have
the same issue, some say I won't cos Nimh behave differently, and some say
it will be worse with Nimh than SLA...
What would you say here, those who know or/and have experimented this ?
Thx
Beo
David, it seems your Nimh packs are a little cheaper than a few months ago,
that's good.

Okay , so how much does a Pack of 24 volt NiMh with charger cost or
who sells them ? Assuming the most affordable way to get to 48 volts
is to buy 2 packs and charge them seperatly with a 24 v charger if a
48 volt charger is not available or too expensive...
David ??? are you there ?

The highest one I know of is Saft. they have NiCd and NiMH both at
100ah (I belive) These packs are designed to be charged with a
constant current charger, and the pack controller will bypass cells
as they ar charged to prevent over charging of the end cells while
the center cells only get a partial charge.
The Power Assist group had a discussion on it a while ago.

Never attribute to malice what can more easily be explained by incompetence.
For single cells, it would be dependant on the size of the cell. An "F" cell
peaks out at about 15 Ahrs. Another important spec is max discharge rate. A
good cell should do 2C to 3C. 20 cells in series will give you your 24vdc.

Hey Steve
Usually if there is a third wire it sometimes is connected to a
temperature sensitive resistor - that is a resistor that changes it
value as a function of temperature - usually its resistance
decreases as the temperature increases. It is used to tell the
temperature of the battery pack somewhere in the center of the cell
bundle. One side is connected to the black negative battery lead and
the other side of the resistor come out on the Blue wire connector
whatever. This usually monitored by the battery charger to determine
when the batteries are too hot to charge or have reached full charge
(full charge indicated by a temperature rise).

I need to purchase samples of the 13 and 10 AH NiMh F cells for delivery
by early April. Is this likely to happen? I don't have to have the best
prices for the samples, but I need to start testing in preparation for
marketing them as custom pack configurations.
I now have a bike equipped with the brushed 2004/05 Currie USPD kit
modified to run on 36V. I am currently using three 7ah size 12V sealed
high rate lead acid batteries which fit nicely into the stock battery
box. Performance is good but range is on the short side. I believe the
10AH NiMh cells should deliver more range than lead acid without as much
voltage drop as the 12 or 13AH NiMh cells have when accelerating or hill
climbing.

Joshua was complaining that he can't see what he types - too many
hours staring at a 20 inch monitor with large type while smoking
cigars - XP has a Narrator that speaks every key that you press as
well as the headers of windows that pop up. Moving the eyeballs a few
times an hour helps circulate blood in the areas that do get blood
from internal vessels.

Hey Joshua if you are running XP turn on the speech for typing, it
speaks each key you press so you don't have to see the keystrokes.
It also can read the text to you out loud from the screen. Also your
eyes need oxygen to function as they get it from the air instead of

Milwaukee Electric Tool says its breakthrough in cordless technology
resulted from a partnership with a Canadian battery company, using
lithium-manganese batteries to deliver high power and longer-lasting
charges.
The 28-volt batteries are from E-One Moli Energy, of Vancouver,
British Columbia, and will be assembled at Milwaukee Electric Tool's
plant in Brookfield.

My last experience riding in the winter was exciting. I was riding on the
frozen surface of eastern lake Ontario. Just hours before it had been
covered by fresh snow. Then freezing rain melted it down . And finally a
cold night froze it solid. It was smooth as glass. The studded tires gave a
good grip. I was having a ball zipping along. I could imagine myself as one
of those amazing men setting a land speed record on the flats. I haven't
felt like this since childhood. The fantasy, the feeling of speed, the
thrill.
Did I say thrill? I should have said spill. I ran into the deep ruts left by
a snowmobile when this was all a snow covered frozen lake. When frozen this
was turned into the equivalent of a concrete drainage ditch. After I ran
into it I did an acrobatic summersault over he handlebars. Thank goodness
heavy winter clothing saved me from injuries. The bike took a beating. One
taco'd wheel and bent forks. Plus a mangled kickstand.
Replaced the forks and rim yesterday. Today I'm going to rewire and install
the new controller. Plus add the alarm system. Should be back on the road in
a day or so. Practice does improve performance. It only took about an hour
to lace this wheel to the motor.
This leaves the problem of a heavy duty kickstand. Does anyone know of a
stand solid enough to handle the weight of bike, batteries and motor? I
really won't miss the old stand too much. It was really too light weight to
handle the weight of the bike.

Well everyone...We got snow!!! It looks to be around 10 to 11 inches worth.
Just like last year, and the year before, I had to try this test again with
the new 24v ABF NiMH battery pack. Again the drive was challenging due to
the snow making turning difficult but this time the motor didn't cut out due
to voltage sag. It appears that these batteries can source more current
than my previous pack. Again, this was done with a 300 watt motor.
I have posted pictures here: http://timgulden.fotopic.net/ (the link is at
the bottom of fotopic page Winter Electric Bike Test).
