Lamar, Harsh words for this group. Not everyone knows the complete benefits
of being off grid. They don't understand because of the way we were
taught. We still look at gas prices and never wonder why 9/10 of a penny. I
asked
the EIA about that one. No one knows why it is like that. Well not too
many people can see the benefits of being 100% off grid. I understand your
point of view. I also know people will fight you all the way because they
really think they have to pay for electric power. They think net metering is
the way to go. Well the truth be known net metering can be a problem. Simple
when the grid is not operating the people net metering have to shut down.
If they don't the grid still has electric power and can kill a line worker.
But not everyone knows these facts. They think that the grid is the only
solution. The smart grid is going to stimulate jobs which is not true. Sure
there may be some new jobs but when the smart grid us up and running; the
jobs will go away again. We need to forget about short term work. I hate the
say this but this also is true for solar and wind projects. Once they are
done, that's it. But wind has more promise. Wind generators break down a
lot. No one is talking about thermal systems. Not solar thermal, but earth
thermal. We use a lot of energy for heating and cooling. Shallow thermal
systems can keep even the worst air leaking home more stable than a electric
furnace or a heating oil furnace. I have been told that 40% of our energy uses
is for heating and 30% for cooling. It is simple shallow trenches water
tight large PV and pump the air into the air handlers of the home or
building, office or what have you. The best way to save money on gas is not to
drive so much. Plan your trips and reduce your time driving. Simple but for
some reason we need to drive for stupid reasons. I can not talk about some of
the products that are coming soon. Sure some are dumb but some are great for
everyone. Lamar I fully agree with you. Some people just don't understand.
Instead they want to put you down or even worse argue over dumb things. I
see your home as a sustainable life style. It may not have water fountains,
and pools but it is your home. I respect that. I also respect what you do
by educating others on how to live within their means. Some people here
have $650.00 a month electric bills. They want the sure fix solution now and
it must be cheap or cost affective. They are looking for ROI's and not
really looking at not having a electric bill for 25 more years. Investors look
here to see if something is worthwhile to invest in. My answer to them is
invest in your self. Lamar did! See what I mean? I just see no purpose
hammering each other via e-mails.
