Dear Varadaraj,
You did not mention where are you now and what is your present status in US. I came here as a postdoc on J1 visa 2 years ago and got converted to H1b recently. I guess PhD students will be given F1 visa. what kind of visa you have now.
Let me know if you need some help in applying for a waiver for 2 year home country stay.
Good Luck

Hello,
I am Varadarajan, from Eroda,India. I am new to this group. I have been offered a research scholar position in the University of Florida, Gainesville. After a year of joining as a scholar,I wish to do my Masters.
Do anyone has any idea about the 212e rule(2 year home country presence). Is it possible to change my visa from J1 to F1 later?
Do give me your suggestions.
Thanks,
Varadarajan.
