Applications are invited from Indian Nationals satisfying the qualifications and
experience mentioned below for the following posts to be filled up by Direct
Recruitment in National Institute of Hydrology (A Govt. of India Society under
Ministry of Water Resources), at its Headquarters and Regional Centers at
Guwahati, Belgaum, Patna, Kakinada, Jammu and Sagar or any part of the country
where the Institute may set up offices/regional centers.
SI.No.1: SCIENTIST E1 [Total No. of post - 1 (Reserved for ST)]
Pay Band: Rs. 15,600-39,100 plus grade pay Rs. 7600 ( Revised)
Age below 50 years [relaxable upto 5 years for ST candidates]
SI.No. 2 : SCIENTIST C [Total No. of post - 1 (Reserved for OBC)]
Pay Band : Rs. 15600-39100 plus grade pay Rs. 6600/-( Revised)
Age: Below 40 years [relaxable upto 3 years for OBC candidates]
SI.No.3 : SCIENTIST B [Total No. of posts - 5 (1 Reserved for SC; 1 Reserved for
ST, 1 reserved for OBC and 2 posts are un-reserved)]
Pay Band : Rs.15600-39100 plus grade pay Rs.5400/-( Revised)
Age: Below 35 years [relaxable upto 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC

POST OF SCIENTIST E1
a) Essential :
i) Essential Educational/Academic Qualifications :
Post Graduate degree in engineering in anyone - of the following speciali-zation
or any other relevant speciali-zation as may be specified according to
requirement :
Water Resources/Hydrology/Hydraulics/Irrigation/Soil & Water
Conservation/Environmental Engg./Remote Sensing Applications in Hydrology AND
having B.E./B/Tech. degree or equivalent either in Civil or Agricultural
Engineering OR
Ph.D. in Physics/Chemistry/Earth Science/Environmental Sciences/Hydrology or
related areas with specialization in anyone of the following areas or any other
relevant areas as may be specified according to requirement :
Instrumentation/Geohydrology/ Hydrogeology/Water
Quality/Hydro-meteorology/Nuclear hydrology/Remote Sensing Applications in
Hydrology or any another relevant area. Discipline in which the candidate should
have M.Sc. degree may be prescribed from among related subjects and will
normally be in Physics/Chemistry/Hydrology/Earth Science/Environmental
Sciences/Meteorology or any other related subject.
ii) Experience:
At least- 10 years experience in teaching/research/design/planning and
investigation in the area of hydrology and water resources out of which at least
5 years must be at Scientist C or equivalent level (Pay band: Rs. 15600-39100
plus grade pay Rs. 6600/= or equivalent) with proven ability of conducting
research and with experience in handling applied research problems in the
relevant areas of hydrology and water resources.
b) Desirable:
1. Higher specialization in hydrology and water resources with Ph.D. in
Engineering for engineering post graduates and Post Doctoral work for Ph.D. in
Sciences.
2. Publications in reputed National & International journals dealing with
hydrology and water resources.

POST OF SCIENTIST C
a) Essential :
i) Essential Educational/Academic Qualifications :
Post Graduate degree in engineering in anyone of the following specialization or
any other relevant specialization as may be specified according to requirement :
Water Resources/Hydrology/Hydraulics/Irrigation/Soil & Water
Conservation/Environmental Engg./ Remote Sensing Applications in
Hydrology/Electronics/Computer and having B.E./B/Tech. degree or equivalent in
anyone of the following: Civil, Mechanical, Agricultural, Electrical,
Electronics or Computer Engineering. OR
Ph.D. in Physics/Chemistry/Earth Science/Environmental Sciences/Hydrology or
related areas with specialization in anyone of the following areas or any other
relevant areas as may be specified according to requirement :
Computer Science/Instrumentation/Geohydrology/Hydrogeology/Water
Quality/Hydro-meteorology/Nuclear Hydrology/Remote Sensing Applications in
Hydroilogy or any other relevant area. Discipline in which the candidate should
have M.Sc. degree may be prescribed from among related subjects and will
normally be in Physics/Chemistry/Hydrology/Earth Science/Environmental
Sciences/Meteorology or any other related subject.
ii) Experience:
At least 5 years experience in teaching/research/design/planning and
investigation in the area of hydrology and water resources which must be at
Scientist B or equivalent level (Pay band: Rs. 15600-¬39100 plus grade pay Rs.
5400/= or equivalent) with proven ability of conducting research and with
experience in handling applied research problems in the relevant areas of
hydrology and water resources.
b) Desirable:
1. Higher specialization in hydrology and water resources with Ph.D. in
Engineering for engineering post graduates and Post Doctoral work for Ph.D. in
Sciences.
Publications in reputed National & International journals dealing with hydrology
and water resources.

POST OF SCIENTIST B
a) Essential:

any other relevant specialization as may be specified according to requirement:

Engineering for engineering post graduate and Post Doctoral Work for Ph.D. in
Sciences.
Publications in reputed National and International journals dealing with
hydrology and water resources.
GENERAL CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. All the above posts carry usual allowances as admissible under the Central
Government Rules. No Pension Scheme is available in the Institute.' However, CPF
- cum- Gratuity Scheme as per Govt. of India norms is operational in the
Institute
2. Age will be relaxed for persons already in service in the Institute and other
Govt./Semi-Govt./Autonomous organizations as well as candidates belonging to
SC/ST/OBC community and physically handicapped persons in accordance with the
instructions or orders issued by the Central Government and will be counted on
the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates.
3. The requirement regarding experience is relaxable at the discretion of
Screening Committee in the cases of candidates belongings to SC/ST/OBC, if at
any stage of selection, the relevant Committee is of the opinion that sufficient
number of candidates from these communities possessing the requisite
qualifications are not likely to be available to fill up the posts reserved for
them.
4. Screening Committee can exercise discretions regarding fulfillment of
experience criteria in the specified pay band and equivalence of pay band. 5.
For an engineering post graduate holding a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, the time
spent on Ph.D. shall be considered as research experience upto a maximum of
three years
6. In case of candidates already employed, the forwarding authority should
certify that the particulars furnished by the officer are correct and that no
disciplinary or vigilance case is pending or contemplated against the officer.
Upto date annul confidential report dossiers of the applicants should also be
sent when requested by the National Institute of Hydrology. It may also be
confirmed that in the event of selection for the appointment, the officer
concerned will be relieved of his duties as and when requested. The integrity of
the officer should also be certified.
7. Candidates already employed in Government/Semi-Govt./Autono-mous Bodies
should apply through proper channel. Applications not forwarded through proper
channel will not be considered.
8. Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate application
for each post along with required fees in the form of separate Demand Draft.
9. If the number of candidate is too large, the Institute reserves the right to
short-list the candidates to be called for interview based on the eligibility
criteria to be decided by the Screening Committee.

11. Applications in the prescribed format in duplicate along with attested

the form of Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- ( One Hundred )only drawn in favour of :
"National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee" payable at SBI Branch of IIT Roorkee

Jal Vigyan Bhawan, Roorkee,-247667, (Uttrakhand) before the closing date. No
application fee will be required for candidates belonging to SC/ST candidates.
The closing date for receiving applications will be 60- days from the date of
publication of the advertisement in the Employment News.
12. The candidates called for interview will be paid TA as per Institute's
Rules.
13. Recent' passport size photograph should be pasted on the top right hand
corner of the application.
14. Applications, which are not complete in all respects, are liable to
rejection.
