Just wanted to send a note with best wishes from RMIUG and a quick update on
the group. On behalf of the RMIUG Executive Committee, let me wish you a
happy and prosperous New Year. Let's hope that the tech market picks up and
our unemployed/under-employed colleagues can find work soon. Keep them in
mind if you come across any job openings and we'll all try to get through
these challenging times as best we can.
Some updates from RMIUG:
- We launched a new web site (still at http://www.rmiug.org) and cool new
RMIUG logo - check it out! We are very grateful to Onyx M. Reyes
(http://www.onyxmreyes.com/) who did the site redesign and Impulse Digital
who created the logo. RMIUG logo t-shirts, anyone? ;-)
- ***IMPORTANT*** Due to construction and remodeling at NCAR, our regular
meeting venue, both the January and March RMIUG meeting are cancelled.
Please join us in May as we resume our normal programming schedule.
- We received a tremendous response to our recent Search Engine Optimization
meeting in November. Because of this, and the rapidly changing nature of
this field, we are working on having another search engine meeting in 2003
to give an update on new developments. (The apparent correlation of our
focus on search engine topics and the new day job of a certain unnamed
<ahem> RMIUG exec are purely coincidental. ;-)
- Many thanks to our RMIUG sponsors: MicroStaff, ONEWARE and Komar
Consulting Group for their ongoing support of RMIUG. For more info and
links to these organizations, see the RMIUG sponsor page,
http://www.rmiug.org/html/sponsors.html
- Our email lists on Yahoo Groups have been very active. Our signal
to noise ratio has improved, although the occasional Spam does sneak
through. Based on member feedback, we made a concerted effort to
protect the rmiug-jobtalk list from Spam. The person who was trying
to repeatedly hit the list seems to have gone away (for now, at least).
With moderation, we stopped probably 50 or more attempts by this
person to hit the list. Ugh. Here are the current list subscriber
counts and links:
RMIUG-Jobs (3114 subscribers!) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rmiug-jobs/
RMIUG-JobTalk (520) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rmiug-jobtalk/
RMIUG-Announce (964) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rmiug-announce/
RMIUG-Discuss (624) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rmiug-discuss/
- We may be seeking one or more additional volunteers to help out with
running RMIUG. If you may be interested, please stop by and see Dan at the
May RMIUG meeting and we can talk more. Many thanks to the RMIUG Executive
Committee and our recent RMIUG "Exec Emeritus" Alek for their dedicated
service running the group.
We'll continue to look at RMIUG and make changes as conditions
warrant and time permits. We hope the group continues to be useful
to you in 2003, and please send us feedback if there are other issues
that need to be addressed. Send email to the RMIUG Committee at:
rmiug-comm@....
All the best for 2003,
Dan
