In all of the cheap (ie Radio Shack) RC cars I have seen, the electronics for the steering servo are integrated on the same PCB as the radio. Unless you are interested in messing around with the main PCB, you may be better off picking up a standard RC servo and fitting that. I have had good success with this in past. If you do not have space for a standard servo you can get a mini or micro size servo.
Good luck,

Subject: [robomontreal] 6 wire servo?
I'm hacking a Radio Shack RC car for I'm hacking a Radio Shack RC car and can't figure out the servo. It has six wires going to the steering box: brown, red, orange, yellow, green and blue. Maybe these don't all go to the servo but I'm reluctant to take it apart to see as it's part of the suspension assembly and might not go back together again.
The car is a Sector 7, model no. 6018610, made in China.
None of the six wires go the external lamps.
I've been told that it does have proportional control.

If you have ANY ideas on servos with more than three inputs please respond as I'm clueless.
Thanks,
Peter
