A group of Detroit High School Students from Cody and Redford working with teachers and engineering mentors to participate in the annual F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition. To be competitive, the collocated Robotics Team 440 is exposed to an environment that encourages the use of the internet to coordinate team activities and communicate design intent through CAD, animation, and web-page writing. Team members monitor their group activities on Team 440's group web site. The site is used to collaborate ideas between the team members from the two schools and archive procurement records, fund raising, community service, and picture taking activities.
A robotics workshop area is set up at both schools. Informally during the fall semester, the students meet any time during the week at their respective schools to work on robotic activities.
Formal team meetings will increase after the National F.I.R.S.T. Kick-off Event(1/6/07)to design and build a robot in 6 weeks (Jan. & Feb.)at a common site untill the deadline for robot shipment (2/20/2007). The site for these meetings is Ford Motor Company at GTL in Dearborn, MI.
