Ok, folks, believe it or not, we got a pretty decent set of changes to
add. We've been "behind the scenes" talking with a lot of folks,
trying to figure out what Media RSS was missing, and trying to
decipher what made the most sense to add.
The purpose of some of these might not be immediately clear, but we
tried to be selective. I don't know if I need to comment too terribly
much on this, but it appears that Media RSS, and RSS, in a certain
sense is morphing to support data exchange between systems. And in
some cases, this could even be a semi-private data exchange between
two closed systems. I think it's in our best interests to make sure we
solve those problems as well without diverging too much the original
heart of RSS. (In other words, more flexibility with the element's
"scheme", as well as new elements that might seem a little bloated)
Hopefully, you'll find the changes interesting (some definitely more
than others). We even did something I really, really didn't want to do
- and that was to "degrade" an element. Well, <media:adult> is gone.
It was too opinionated and inflexible. Hellooooo <media:rating>.
Anyway, I hereby humbly submit 1.1.0 for your viewing pleasure.
Reminder: this is just a working copy. Please take a look at it at
your earliest convenience and drop some feedback. If posting to the
group makes your belly nervous, feel free to email me directly at:

Here's a quick list of the changes, some are deeper than they might
appear, so please read the spec:
Improved global syndication capabilities:
- Corrected spelling mistakes.
- Add xml:lang attributes to media:text and media:content.
- Degraded <media:adult>, and added <media:rating> as a replacement.
- Modified <media:credit> to give more flexibility to represent things
other than people or companies.
- Added <media:description> element.
- Added medium attribute to <media:content> to explicitly determine
what type of media is expressed.
- Added <media:restriction> element.
- Added <meda:keywords> element.
- Added a "Best Practices" section to encourage use of the Feed
History module, and Dublin Core's expiration capability.
- Add time code information to <media:thumbnail> and <media:text>
Thanks, and give us that feedback!
