Recommended MIME type for RSS 2.0   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #566 of 1979 |

After some debate [1], the recommended mime type for RSS 2.0 feeds
seemed to have settled (see, for example [2]) on "text/xml".

Phil Ringnalda has rightly pointed out that RFC 3023 [3] treats
text/xml and application/xml differently, and that for the most
part, application/xml is the better mime type.

Since IE treats these two mime types as essentially the same for
reasons too murky to get into (I'll be happy to discuss separately,
if someone wants to), I don't have a particular preference. So I'd
be happy if this group provided a recommendation as part of the RSS
profile, and Microsoft will gladly echo that recommendation.
