Lessons Learned and Implications for the Future
An e-Conference to be held 28—30 October 2008
The first casino resort opened in Atlantic City, NJ in
1978. Atlantic City was the first US gaming jurisdiction
outside of Nevada and was widely considered a high-risk
experiment. Thirty years have pasted since Resorts
International opened its doors and the experiment is on-
going. During those 30 years Atlantic City and Atlantic
County NJ have been transformed, as has the national and
international gaming landscape. The purpose of this e-
conference is to look back at the lessons learned from the
Atlantic City experiment and to look forward to the future
of Atlantic City and of gaming in general in today’s
environment of high tech and high levels of competition for
the consumer’s entertainment dollar.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cultural, economic, environmental, and social impacts on
Atlantic City and South Jersey;
Education issues;
Future of gaming in Atlantic City, the USA, and the World;
Gambling on the Internet;
Gaming business models;
Human resource management issues in casino resorts;
Problem gaming;
