Description

The first oil well in Oklahoma was drilled in 1859. From 1900-1935, more than 8 billion barrels of oil were produced from Oklahoma wells. In 2002,there were 10,000 fewer pumping oil wells in the state than there were in 1992. The average daily production per well in 2002 was 2.16 barrels, in 1992 it was 2.99 barrels. Total production was 101 million barrels in 1992, 66 million barrels in 2002.

Nobody who lives in Oklahoma should doubt the fact of oil depletion. The world now approaches the peak of world oil production. This prediction is based on the work of Dr. M. King Hubbert, who correctly predicted the peak in US oil production in 1970/71.

"Oil is the sine qua non of "industrial" civilization-the one thing without which such civilization cannot exist. All of the world's 600 million automobiles depend on oil. So do virtually all other commodities and critical processes: airlines, chemicals, plastics, medicines, agriculture, heating, etc. Almost all of the increase in world food productivity over the past 50 years is attributable to increases in the use of oil-derived additives: pesticides; herbicides; fungicides; fertilizers; and machinery."
