La Posada Recreational Center
CONSTELLATION PRESENTATION: Mr. Bob Andress on Andromeda, Pegasus, Cassiopeia, and Perseus constellations and surrounding binocular and telescope objects at 7:10pm
SPEAKER: Mr. George Barber lecture at 7:30pm
TITLE: “What Kind of Star?”
ABSTRACT: Did you know that stars come in all kinds of colors and sizes? The light from a star tells us a lot about it – how hot it is, how long it will burn, what we can find inside it, and what will happen when it reaches the end of its lifetime. This presentation will cover the details on the many types of stars in the night, along with other amazing and mysterious stellar objects in our Universe.
BIOGRAPHY: George Barber is an electrical engineer at Raytheon. His interest in astronomy started when he was very young, and was spurred on by the NASA moon missions. George has been a member of the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association for 10 years. He currently serves on the TAAA board of directors, participates project ASTRO, and volunteers as a telescope operator at Flandrau Observatory. During the year, you will also find George at numerous school and public star parties. But, his favorite star party is the Grand Canyon star party. George is primarily interested in visual observing. He owns both an 8-inch and 12-inch Meade for exploring the night sky, and a Coronado PST for solar viewing, along with large binoculars.
